Jerusalem, Israel - Apr. 15, 2021 - In Israel, the solemn and serious mood of Yom HaZikaron transitioned into celebrations for Yom Haatzmaut, from Tuesday night, April 13 to Thursday, April 15, 2021. With coronavirus limitations lessened this year, annual events were held, but with smaller audiences and crowds.

The Har Herzl Military Cemetery was not the annual crowded scene on Yom HaZikaron for the annual memorial siren at 11:00 am. However, other smaller cemeteries held community events that attracted groups to remember fallen soldiers. One such cemetery is located near the Knesset and Rose Garden, where the graves mostly from 1948-1950, had a flag, black ribbon, and flowers for Yom HaZikaron.

As the sunset on Wednesday night, events shifted from Yizkor and El Malei Rachamim to services with live music for a festive Maariv, ending with "HaTikvah." With many people returning to shuls for the first time in over a year, the mood was especially joyful, even if the congregation was sitting and standing outside.

The annual flyover show was held midday on Thursday as millions of Israelis with a day off from work, met for family or other reunions and a BBQ meal with grilled food called "mangal."  Sacher Park was ready with new large dumpsters similar to those used for burning chametz this year for the leftover charcoal and disposable grills. With perfect weather and a clear sky, the sounds of children playing outside at family parties were heard all day, while the previous night's music blasted until dawn. For Yom Haaztmaut, "White Night" there is no noise curfew and parties can go on and on until dawn.
