Naama Issachar, an Israeli-American woman jailed for 7.5 years in Russia on drug-related charges, formally appealed for presidential pardon, NEWSru.co.il reported Sunday.

The news portal cites a statement from her advocates as saying that after a consultation on a recent statement from the Kremlin saying that Naama cannot get pardoned unless she personally appeals for it.

Naama has decided to do so, the statement reads, and filed the appeal under the established procedure through the administration of the prison she is being held in.

“Naama, her family and her defenders are hoping that, in line with his constitutional powers, the Russian president will soon make the decision to pardon and release her,” the statement says.
