Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 13, 2018 - On Wednesday night, ג' בתשרי for the fifth year, President Reuven Rivlin hosted Selichos in the shul and gardens at Beit Hanasi in Yerushalayim.

Every year the evening has included members of the daily weekday minyin at Beit Hanasi and invited guests. This year 500 young people were seated in the garden, soldiers and  military preparatory mechinah students, an impressive "ingathering of the exiles" as the President mentioned.

One of the previous balei tefilah of Selichos at the President's Residence was Yitzhak Meir, this year the honor went to Israeli singer David D'Or, and payytan Moshe Louk

"In Jewish tradition, Selichos are recited in the plural," the President said in his opening remarks. "We have sinned before you, ashmanu, begadnu...We all are wrong, in all areas. We all ashmanu, we have sinned before you."

"I think that should be a lesson from the nusach for our daily lives," added the President, "We are all looking for the best, for the people, for the State of Israel. On that there is no argument. However, we have bitter arguments  on the correct path to take. Therefore it is advisable before any discussion, before conflict, to reflect, to think. There is no 'we' and 'they' we are all part of one community. We all are to do the best for the future, for the future of our children, and for the future of the State of Israel.

President Rivlin ended his remarks with שנה טובה ומתוקה וגמר חתימה טובה.
