Jerusalem, Israel - June 18, 2018 - For the first time the American Jewish Committee (AJC) has held its Global Forum in Jerusalem, Israel. Over 2,400 participants were involved in touring, learning, discussion groups and participating in plenary sessions held at the International Conference Center Jerusalem. 

Keynote speakers included Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. Both leaders delivered positive and supportive messages which were well received and appreciated by the audience members. 

The conference program schedule was filled with impressive personalities and guest speakers. 

Ahmed Zoabi and Ahlam Alsana, both Israeli Bedouins, spoke representing the many faces of Israeli society. 

AJC CEO David Harris interviewed First Vice Speaker of Parliament of Georgia Tamar Chugoshvili. While Israeli Minister for Diaspora Affairs Naftali Bennett was interviewed by Kim Pimley, AJC International Commission Relations Chair. 

A special award for moral courage was presented to Sondra Samuel, the Indian woman who saved little Moshe Holtzberg, Samuel protected and stayed with the boy after his parents were murdered in the 2008 terror attack on the Chabad House in Mumbai.

Incoming AJC Managing Director of Global Communications Avi Mayer, moderated a debate between MK Stav Shaffir and Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi, on the two-state solution. Mayer, presently works for Natan Sharansky at the Jewish Agency in communications. A former Maryland resident, Mayer attended the University of Maryland and worked for Hillel, before returning to Israel to live and work.

To conclude the evening, Dr. Kurt Graham, Director of the Harry S. Truman Library, gave a presentation on Truman and his support for the establishment of Israel. 

Other popular guests included the former Iraqi beauty queen Sarah Idan, who caused an uproar by taking a photo with Israeli beauty queen Adar Gandelsman at the Miss Universe Pagent. Idan and her family had to flee Iraq after the Instagram photo became known and they received death threats.

Dozens of smaller specialized sessions and an Israel 70 exhibition in the conference center rounded out a full and well planned event held over several days in Jerusalem, A family Shabat option was also offered to those who wanted to arrive before the Sunday morning registration.
