Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, last night (Thursday, 14 September 2017; Mexico Central Time), in Mexico City, attended in event with 800 members of the Jewish community. Following is an excerpt from the Prime Minister's remarks:

"Sara and I are very happy to be here. We are very moved, we love you. You know, you can be ambassadors for peace. You know why? Obviously. You've made peace between the Jews of Halab [Aleppo] and the Jews of Damascus. You give Jewish education to your children. Thank you dear children [for the welcoming songs]. There's a Jewish heart here, a Jewish soul. I feel it.

We are here on an historic visit. Hard to believe, but for the first time in 70 years, since the establishment of the state, that the Israeli Prime Minister is visiting Mexico and Latin America. I want to make you a promise – it won't take another 70 years for the next visit, for sure. This has been a wonderful visit. I've had extraordinary conversations with President Peña Nieto. There is a great change.

I sat here and looked this fantastic painting [see attached photo] and I saw Jewish history spread before us. We would fight for our freedom. Thank you from the Land of Israel and thank you for the great support."
