Baltimore, MD - June 22, 2017 - On Sunday June 11th, Baltimore experienced an amazing milestone. Seven precious children of the JEWELS School received their very own siddurim. Seven children with special needs had a siddur party, and performed in front of their siblings, parents, grandparents and even great grandparents. They proudly walked upon the stage and held their siddurim with satisfaction.

A beautiful and emotional ceremony that lasted one hour took five years to produce. JEWELS Inclusive School and Therapy Clinic began five years ago, as a dream of parents of children with special needs. They dreamed that one day children in Baltimore with special needs would have a school that would embrace them and help them develop and reach milestones that most of us take for granted. They dreamed of having a school that reflects the ideals and goals seen in their homes.  Who would believe that these parents would hear the sweet words of Ani Maamin sung by these children at a school event? Who could imagine that they would have teachers who take pride in knowing that these children will know their ABC’s as well as their Aleph Beis! Where else will you see a siddur party where therapists beam with pride as they watch these children read from a siddur, who at one point needed sign language to communicate

Baltimore, this is your Nachas!

You rallied around this fledgling school that began 5 years ago with 12 students and today has 40. You have made a difference in the lives of these children and their families. You can’t imagine the strength and hope you have given these families. Parents spent hundreds of hours trying to find the doctors and therapists that would help their children walk and talk. You haven’t helped 40 children, you have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of people.  They now know that Baltimore is a place where every child matters no matter how Hashem made them. Today, these parents can go out into our community and feel that they belong. When their neighbor’s children come home from school with a shiny, brand new siddur, they no longer have to feel that ache in their hearts. They too have hope for a bright future. Every one of you, who have stepped up to help JEWELS in so many different ways, share in this amazing milestone. We can never thank you enough. Hope is priceless, and that is what you have given these families.

Thank you, Baltimore, thank you JEWELS, thank you Mrs. Shuli Bamberger, school director, and her talented staff, for never giving up. Your talent, dedication and love know no limits. May this be a zechus for our community and our families. This milestone gives us strength to keep pushing forward so that we meet the growing needs of the children with special needs of Baltimore. Together, with the help of Hashem, we will continue to make dreams come true.
