Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has called the EU vaccine rollout too slow amid the urgent health crisis

The Elysee Palace criticized Denmark and Austria on Thursday for planning an alliance with Israel regarding the development of anti-COVID vaccines, believing that cooperation between EU members is the best way to tackle the crisis. 

"Our conviction remains very clear that the most effective solution to meet vaccination needs must continue to be based on the European framework," a spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"It is indeed he who guarantees our collective effectiveness and solidarity between the member states, which is more essential than ever," the spokesperson added. 

Both Austria and Denmark have expressed frustration over the pace of the EU's vaccine rollout, and have looked to Israel, considered the world leader in inoculations per capita, for cooperation on the health crisis. Read more at i24
