The ballad, A Shtikela Broite (a little piece of bread), was written by Prof. Zehavit Gross for her young grandson in order to tell him the story of his great-grandfather. She says: "For many years my late father, Zvi Brenner, a Holocaust survivor from Transnistria in Eastern Europe, was silent but when he started talking he told one story which was so difficult to listen and comprehend, but I absorbed it and now I pass it on to you." Prof. Zehavit Gross, a renowned international expert in Holocaust education and research, is Head of the UNESCO Chair and the Sal Gelder Center for Holocaust Research and Instruction at Bar-Ilan University.

This ballad is dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust and commemorates the one and a half million Jewish children who were slaughtered, as well as those Holocaust survivors who built new families and new lives.

It is written in such a way that children and adolescents  will be able to cope with and digest her father's Holocaust survivor story which consists of “difficult knowledge”. However, the poem "speaks" and excites even older people – its depth and sophistication appeals to adults as well. The song's performer adds extra depth – the singer, cantor and actor, Dudu Fischer, creates the emotive atmosphere with his warmth and amazing voice. Fisher's performance "throws" the listener into the horrendous conditions of the Nazi concentration camps during World War II and is chilling on purpose. The music for the ballad was composed and arranged by Moshe Yosef who effectively placed the words into the rhythmic and soulful waltz. The music envelops the listener. The visual accompaniment to the ballad using the "sand animation" technique was created by the artist, Ilana Yahav, who powerfully adds to the ballad's emotions and messages. Her art opens up another dimension for us to deal with the issue of memory and sharpens our understanding of this tragedy.

The ballad has been translated into many languages including Yiddish, French, Arabic, German, English, Romanian, Polish and Spanish and is in the process of being translated into other languages.
