As Israel continues to endure the so-called second wave of Corona, more and more government offices have closed their doors to the public. Mrs. Chana Rothstein of the Chaim V’Chessed Bureaucratic Department has prepared the following list of updated information. Please note that information can -and will – change frequently.

Misrad HaPnim (Interior Ministry) is currently open as usual during morning hours, on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM 12:00 PM.

The visa department operates on those days from 8AM – 9AM. It is nearly impossible to obtain an appointment for visa services. Hence, we strongly recommend arriving no later than 7:15 AM.

For all other services,  it is highly recommended to make an appointment. This can be done on myvisit.com. If you do not have a teudat zehut, use  your kupat cholim number. Choose the office of רשות האוכלוסין וההגירה and select  any of the services under תיעוד ביומטרי.

Bituach Leumi is closed to the public. Applications can be left in the box outside their office, or queries can be submitted from your online account. Please note: It is now possible for all members of Bituach Leumi to create an account, even if you do not possess a Teudat Zehut.

Mas Hachnasa (Income Tax) is closed to the public.

The Jerusalem Municipality offices are closed to the public. Arnona discounts and changing the tenant on apartments can be done online on the website of the Iriya

Misrad HaRishui (DMV) remains open. However, an appointment is mandatory for all services. This can be done at this site.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv Branch Office are currently open for emergencies only. If you need a passport urgently, either for upcoming travel or for visa purposes, you can email both jerusalemacs@state.gov and telavivacs@state.gov, to request an emergency appointment. The subject line should include the words URGENT and the reason e.g. Urgently need passport for emergency travel. Include the details (names, birthdays and passport numbers) of all family members that will be attending the appointment, as well as any relevant documentation (expired visas, paid ticket etc).

Please note: There is a major backlog at both the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv  locations. You will likely not receive an appointment before 4 – 6 weeks from when you email them. In the case of upcoming travel,  you can now apply with proof of paid ticket up to 6 weeks before the date of travel.
