President Donald Trump called New York a disaster. and he has threatened to intervene if Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo don’t respond to the riots, he told Newsmax TV in an interview with “Spicer & Co.”

“It’s a disaster what’s going on in New York, and we can help them out, a lot. They have to ask. If they don’t get it straightened out soon, I’ll take care of it,” Trump told former Press Secretary Sean Spicer in a sitdown at the White House.

Trump pointed to the National Guard presence in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., aimed at restoring calm to those cities after protests on the death of George Floyd gave rise to spasms of violence and looting.

“We need safety in our cities, and when they didn’t take care of it, we took care of it in Washington, D.C. I said two days ago, this is the safest place on earth. We brought in incredible people. They took care of the situation very easily,” Trump said. “And in Minnesota, as you know, we took care of that situation with their great city. … Once they went through three days of [purgatory] and I had to say ‘You’ve gotta get them in.’ Once they came in, it was like a knife cutting butter, it was so easy,” Trump said.
