We are coming to the States for a whole year – be'ezrat Hashem!

And now a few words to explain this surprising statement.

Those of you who follow me on FB have surely noticed that in recent months I have been flying to the US every few weeks for a lecture series. What started as a local initiative in Jerusalem – the Weekly Shiur – has grown beyond belief and I was invited to give the shiur in LA, Washington DC, New York, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey and in many other locations. There I met thousands of far-yet-near brothers and sisters – from Israelis who moved to the States to fifth-generation American Jews.

Each time I went there, I felt how important it was, how much we all share the same story, and it is not an Israeli story – it is a global one. But as each lecture series came to an end, I felt that I was stopping in the middle. I had to turn down invitations to speak at another school, university campus or congregation because I had to go back home.

Then Rabbi Doron Peretz, the head of World Mizrachi offered us to go and live in the States for an entire year as Shlichim of the movement – to teach, to meet, to lecture.
What a challenging, frightening and exciting proposal!! We thought about it at length, took advise and we agreed to take up the suggestion. We hope and pray that we will be successful.

Yedidya, the children and I will be living in New York next year (and we will be on the lookout for really good babysitters). The lectures will be mainly in New York, but we will also visit communities all over the States. We are not leaving tomorrow; we plan to travel in mid-August before Elul – for one year.

Don't worry, although we plan to work hard there, we are not stopping what we love to do here in Israel – the Daily WhatsApp, TV and the Galei Tzahal radio show. We are not cutting our ties with Israel, chalila, we are going to connect with more people, to our brothers and sisters that we don't yet know.

And what about the weekly shiur in Heichal Shlomo? It's moving to a new location at Yeshiva University. This is going to be very exciting – I will be giving the shiur at Stern College in Manhattan twice – in Hebrew and in English and of course we will continue to broadcast it live (don't worry – we will begin with the mazal tovs)..

While I am writing this post, I am busy making mental lists of all the tasks we need to do before we go. I know that it will be several months before we actually leave, but I am already beginning to be homesick for Israel.

And of course, you didn't think I would end this post without reference to the weekly parasha! My hope is that during our time there, we will constantly remind ourselves and all those we meet of the five beautiful words from this week's parasha – "the land is exceedingly good". טובה הארץ מאוד מאוד.
