Stevenson will create a two-year program—designed specifically for Ner Israel students—that will allow them to complete a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Pre-Med Focus and minor in Medical Humanities while accommodating their studies at Ner Israel. The signing ceremony was held Wednesday, Jan. 16, on Stevenson’s Owings Mills campus. “Ner Israel wishes to express appreciation to President Hirshman and the entire Stevenson University staff for creating a program that will be beneficial to our students who wish to pursue careers in the health professions,” said Rabbi Neuberger. “We take pride in our ability to provide Stevenson with students who are motivated and excited to undertake a dual program. They bring research and critical-thinking skills as well as the ethical principles that come from Talmudic studies.” “This is an innovative partnership that allows students to take advantage of the best of what both of our institutions offer,” said President Hirshman. “The students will earn a B.A. in Talmudic Studies from Ner Israel and a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stevenson. The students will also benefit from our pre-health advising, career preparation focus, and internships that will set the stage for graduate education.”

In addition to creating a curriculum that addresses the academic requirements for graduate programs in medicine and health, Stevenson will offer the advantage of faculty mentoring and small class sizes through its Beverly K. Fine School of the Sciences and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The program will require students to complete an internship working with professionals in healthcare fields as well as courses on ethics and humanities that will allow them to bring their studies from Ner Israel into the Stevenson classroom.
