Rabbinical Alliance of America –IGUD HARABBONIM unequivocally Condemns the Alarming Rise in Physical Assaults on Jews in New York City and throughout the United States

The Rabbinical Alliance of America - IGUD HARABBONIM a professional Rabbinical Organization founded in 1942 – with a membership of over 950 Orthodox Rabbis -- categorically condemns the alarming increase of horrifying physical attacks on Jews throughout New York City and beyond, and calls on all community, civic and political leaders to unite in denouncing this violent Jew hatred.

On Monday, April 23rd, it was reported that a Fed Ex employee, Madraque Tyquan Bailey, 22, stabbed a Jewish man (Jack Gindi, 28) in the midtown section of Manhattan during broad daylight. The attack took place in front of the Woori America Bank on West 33rd Street and Fifth Avenue at 1:40 pm.  The suspect was subsequently apprehended and Mr. Gindi was brought to Bellevue Hospital for immediate medical attention.

On Saturday morning (April 21st), Menachem Moskowitz, 52, of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn was brutally beaten by a man on a sidewalk near Rutland Road and Schenectady Avenue as he was returning home from synagogue at the Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital.  A clearly identifiable Orthodox Jew, Moskowitz said that the attacker launched into an anti-Semitic verbal tirade while punching, choking and kicking his victim.

Moskowitz, who suffered a broken rib and a bloody eye, told the media of his attacker, "I turned around and I see that he’s right behind me and he jumped me. And then he said ‘I hate Jews. I am going to kill you.’”

The suspect in this attack has still not be apprehended.

On Saturday evening (April 13th), another Crown Heights man named Ari Ellis was viciously beaten by three men and two women near 770 Eastern Parkway, the international headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.

One of the assailants asked Ellis, “Do you want to fight?” and began to kick and punch him with others joining in the attack.

“The egregious scourge of anti-Semitism has reared its loathsome head once again," declared Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, the Vice President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabbonim. "We cannot deny it, or even worse turn a blind eye to it. We intend to work closely with law enforcement officials towards the goal of providing sufficient protection to neighborhoods under siege. We also ask that the NYPD continue their investigations in finding and apprehending the assailants who are still on the loose and we ask that each of them is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," he added.

He added that "everyone in this blessedly diverse society is at risk when anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia rise. We must organize to stem the tide of such toxic hatred with every method at our disposal in order to protect the people of this great country."

May He who makes peace in His heavens, make peace for us and for all Israel, Amen.
