Washington, DC – Jan. 29, 2025 – – A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, operating as American Airlines Flight 5342 from Wichita, collided midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan National Airport (DCA) around 9 p.m. local time, according to the FAA.
The PSA-operated regional jet, carrying approximately 70 passengers, was in its final descent when it struck the helicopter, which was conducting operations in the area. Emergency responders, including DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, are actively working at the scene, with fireboats deployed in the Potomac River.
Reagan National Airport has suspended all takeoffs and landings due to the incident, though the terminal remains open for passengers inside the airport.
