Baltimore, MD – Dec. 18, 2024 – A small fire broke out early this morning at the Pearlstone Retreat Center, a hub for Jewish retreats and environmental education. Thanks to swift action by emergency crews and the building’s sprinkler system, the damage was minimal.
Eve Wachhaus, COO of Pearlstone, provided an update from the scene, stating that the retreat center is in far better condition than initially feared. While sprinklers were activated in a few spaces and some water damage occurred, the main rooms, including the kitchen, remain intact. The fire originated from a propane heater placed too close to an exterior wall, causing minor damage to the exterior and a meeting space above it.
The main building is currently closed for remediation, and electricity restoration is underway. Wachhaus expressed gratitude for everyone's health and safety, noting that updates will be provided throughout the day.
Pearlstone remains committed to its mission and will continue to prioritize safety and care for its facilities and guests.
