Baltimore, MD - Jan. 18, 2024  - For the families of Menucha, Shabbos Parshas Shemos began with anticipation and huge smiles, as each family was greeted warmly upon arrival at the Pikesville DoubleTree Hilton hotel. By the time Motzei Shabbos arrived, the connection, inspiration, and laughter was tangible as the entire Menucha family danced, hand in hand, truly feeling like one big family.

Menucha, a Baltimore-based organization that services children and adults with disabilities, not only provides consistent activities for their participants, but they also strive to encourage, support, and inspire the Menucha parents and families. The annual Menucha Shabbaton can perhaps best illustrate the organization’s mission and the incredible devotion of the Menucha families.

Organized by Mrs. Rochel Neuberger, Miss Bella Herman, and Miss Sorah Taragin under the direction of Rabbi Yaakov Wealcatch and Mrs. Ellen Edinger, the Shabbaton featured inspirational speeches from guest speaker Rabbi David Ashear, uplifting and delicious seudos, inspiring Divrei Torah from Menucha family members and participants, and activities to keep the Menucha participants happily entertained. The packed Shabbos program was followed by an evening of inspiration for Menucha families, staff, and volunteers, featuring lively dancing, delicious refreshments, and an address from Rabbi David Ashear.

As one grateful attendee shared, “It was nice to spend time with the “Menucha” family as well as get to know some of the volunteers. Aside from getting chizuk from the speaker, we all cheer each other on!” Another Menucha parent similarly commented, “We so appreciated the opportunity to get away, relax in a calming environment, and connect with Menucha families”. “The warmth, acceptance, and love at the Menucha Shabbaton is something that is so unique and special to this organization”, remarked a volunteer, “I feel privileged to have taken part in this!”

A special thank you to Miss Shoshana Lieder, Miss Chana Leba Klainberg, and the enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who provided a fun-packed program for the Menucha participants including songs, games, and other Shabbos activities. Thank you to Reb Pesachya Neuman for running the boy’s program and to volunteers Aharon Edinger, Reuven Melka, and Naftoli Neuberger for their assistance. Menucha is grateful to the Charles Crane Family Foundation for its regular sponsorship of this program, and to O’Fishel and Simcha Gross for the delicious food and excellent service.

This incredible Shabbos brought a sense of closeness, unity, and warmth to all those in attendance. All participants left on Motzai shabbos with the strong feeling that Menucha is truly one big family.
