President Trump's Chief Legal Adviser is a religious Jew - who stayed in his Saudi Arabia hotel room on Friday night.

US President Donald Trump's Chief Legal Adviser Jason Greenblatt arrived in Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh but stayed in his hotel room and ate a Shabbat meal of fruits and crackers.

Greenblatt did not participate in the meetings held over Shabbat in Riyadh.

Greenblatt is a graduate of Yeshiva University and the Har Etzion Yeshiva. He lives in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his wife Naomi and their six children. Naomi is a psychiatrist, and the couple leads a haredi lifestyle.

Greenblatt, as well as Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner received permission from a rabbi to fly to Saudi Arabia on Shabbat for President Trump's first international trip since taking office.
