Baltimore, MD – Jan. 10, 2023 - 7 Mile Market and Market Maven would like the community to be aware of Baltimore County’s proposed ban on plastic bags. The proposal is intended to protect the environment. We would like our customers to be aware of the following:

  1. Customers will be required to provide their own bags.
  2. No plastic bag option will be available at all, neither for purchase nor with paying a tax.
  3. Paper bags may be available for purchase, but the bill requires the customer to pay an additional 10 cent tax per bag.
  4. Reusable cloth bags will continue to be available for purchase (currently at $1.00 per bag).
  5. Increased breakage is a concern in the event customers have no bags and choose to carry their purchases to their vehicles.
  6. Reusable bags harbor dangerous germs like E coli, salmonella, and staph when not cleaned and disinfected properly.
  7. As customers begin to shop with their own bags there is a concern that shoplifters will now be able to conceal stolen product more easily which will lead to more undesirable elements infiltrating our stores and our community.

If you have any comments or concerns about the proposed ban, please contact Baltimore County Councilman Izzy Patoka who introduced the bill:
