Rabbinic group thanks Department of Justice for Airmont Suit

Baltimore, MD, Dec. 3, 2020 —  Responding to the lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice against the Village of Airmont, NY for religious discrimination against its Orthodox Jewish residents, Rabbi Pesach Lerner, President of the Coalition for Jewish Values, issued the following statement:

We are sincerely grateful that Attorney General William Barr has filed suit against Airmont— as he did as George H.W. Bush's Attorney General in 1991, the year Airmont was incorporated as an independent village. Airmont has a long history of ugly bias against the Jewish community, and clearly the Attorney General is as frustrated by this as we in the Jewish community, along with all who value religious freedom and the rights of property owners everywhere.
