The Opportunity


CHANA: A program of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore has an immediate opening for an Abuse Prevention Educator to join their team. The Abuse Prevention Educator will work in schools and communities to facilitate abuse prevention services which will include prevention education. The individual will work collaboratively with educational institutions, and community members to provide outreach, education and prevention programming.


The Abuse Prevention Educator must have a desire to actively participate in activities with youth; engage in prevention/education programming, exhibit good judgment; and be able to relate with youth, young adults and families in a professional, nonjudgmental manner.



The Abuse Prevention Educator will:

Promote, schedule, develop and provide presentations to middle schools, high schools, and local colleges.
Create and manage a comprehensive program calendar.
Develop and implement evidence based, audience specific educational programs.
Research and implement best practices for prevention education.
Plan, coordinate, and implement youth engagement activities across the Baltimore community.
Foster and maintain working relationships with school personnel and community organizations.
Collect, analyze data and prepare reports as required by funding sources, as requested by CHANA’s Executive Director, Board, and various community agencies as appropriate
Foster relationships with local schools, synagogues and young adult serving agencies to establish partnerships in educational endeavors
Collaborate with marketing team to create promotional materials
Attend CHANA Team meetings and participate on relevant committees in connection with abuse prevention initiatives
Perform other program responsibilities and duties as needed assigned by the Executive Director
Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience working in the field of prevention programs.
Knowledge of Jewish traditions, culture and values required.
Experience in social work, public health, education or other related field.
Proven knowledge in Victim Services and/or sexual violence prevention not required, but a plus.
Proven experience with networking in the community and working in a collaborative setting with outside agencies
Background in education preferred.
Experience working with diverse groups preferred.
Must pass a criminal background check/ fingerprinting
Must have means of transportation / driver’s license.


Skills and Qualities

Ability to learn, retain, and present evidence-based prevention curricula with fidelity to prescribed curricula.
Experience in public speaking, engaging, and facilitating large and small groups.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills
Experience working with youth in school or community setting is preferred. (Abuse prevention specialist, social worker, teacher, youth pastor, counselor, etc.)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrates competence with computer systems including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks.
Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality, use discretion, and make good judgements.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Extensive knowledge and experience in creating and presenting educational trainings to a wide variety of audiences including students and professionals.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional nights and weekends.
Ability to integrate well with existing CHANA Team.

Salary range is approximately $45,900 - $55,000. Salary will be based on qualifications, skills and experience.
