About the Position

Description

The Chief Financial Officer oversees all financial matters and operations in the institution. The Chief Financial officer has primary responsibility for planning, budgeting and implementing all financial policies. The Chief Financial Officer serves on the Senior Leadership Team.

Reports to the Executive Dean
Supervises the Bursar

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees all cash movement and banking administration within the organization
• Maintains balanced bank accounts for all bank accounts in portfolio
• Supervises monthly bank reconciliations
• Leads the preparation and implementation of operational and capital budgets and forecasts
• Accumulates all necessary financial data needed to report business results
• Provides management with business performance metrics critical to the decision-making process
• Designs and maintains new policies and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting tasks and products; software development is also included in this category
• Monitors collections efforts and progress throughout the semester; oversees accounts payable for organization, attempts to keep payables to 30-day turn-around cycle
• Reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements prepared by the Bursar
• Oversees independent financial statements audit by coordinating audit procedures with external auditors
• Serves as liaison with organization’s tax accountant to ensure accurate and timely Federal, State, and personal property tax returns, 1099s filings, and regulatory submissions
• Hires, trains, and supervises all accounting staff necessary to perform all duties
• Takes responsibility for all planning, directing, and coordinating of accounting functions
• Assesses current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
• Evaluates accounting and internal control systems

Minimum Skills/Experience Required

• Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Minimum of five years of experience managing accounting, budget, and financial reporting operations
• Strong collaboration across departments
• Must have supervisory experience
• CPA preferred
• Higher education and/or non-profit experience preferred
• Knowledge of MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and MS One Drive
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Engaging interpersonal skills for working with faculty, vendors, and partner professionals
