Baltimore, MD - June 28, 2017 - On June 27, 2017, Baltimore Shomrim Safety Patrol (BSSP) dispatch received a call from a concerned home owner who observed several young men behaving suspiciously in their neighborhood. The individuals were lingering around several residences and walking onto various residence’s private property with no apparent purpose.

The BSSP immediately dispatched units to observe the subjects to make sure that nothing nefarious was taking place. After surveilling the subjects for a short period of time their purpose became clearly apparent. The individuals were going behind homes and attempting to break into sheds to steal property. The units observed the individuals retrieve bicycles and leave the property.

The responding units were in contact with Baltimore County Police who were able to locate the suspects with the assistance of the BSSP. The individuals were apprehended by Baltimore County Police and taken into custody. It was the quick actions of the BSSP and their dedicated all volunteer safety patrol members that resulted in stopping criminal activity in the community and hopefully prevented further thefts from occurring.  

Nathan Willner, President of the Cheswolde Neighborhood Association and BSSP’s General Counsel commented, “Even after my many years of community activism, I am still impressed with the commitment and fortitude of the BSSP members that drop everything on a seconds notice to keep our neighborhoods safe. These added “eyes and ears” are true role models for all communities throughout Baltimore City and County. Citizen participation is the key to building the Police-Community relationship and increasing public safety. The Police cannot do it alone, we are all responsible for one another.”
