Trenton, NJ - Two New York City men convicted of roles in a scheme that defrauded Home Depot stores in five states out of more than $250,000 are headed to prison.

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey say 75-year-old Renauld Medard received a 30-month sentence on Monday, while 31-year-old Wesly Dieudonne got a 28-month sentence.

Authorities say the Brooklyn residents used an elaborate “double-dipping” scheme in which they bought various items from Home Depot stores. They would then make another visit and compile identical sets of goods as listed in receipts from previous purchases.

Under the guise they had forgotten to purchase an item, usually an inexpensive one, they used the receipts to trick cashiers into believing that the new sets of goods had already been purchased.

They were convicted in May 2015 on wire fraud and conspiracy counts.e
