Jerusalem, Israel - June 26, 2017 - Monday morning, at the Jewish Agency for Israel Board of Governors meeting at the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel, was to be a routine agenda with reports and plans for new housing for Holocaust survivors.

Jerusalem, Israel - June 26, 2017 - However, a special plenary, closed to the press, was held to discuss the previous days' announcements on the Kossel and conversion.

Jewish Agency head Natan Sharansky arrived to a crowded hotel ballroom, with many US delegates furious over the Israeli Prime Minister's actions. A dinner scheduled in the Knesset for the evening was cancelled.

In May, had written to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "We must recognize that Israel is in the midst of an historic and monumental process of ingathering the exiles, and that the Jewish people can and must open its gates to those who wish to become part of it. Thousands of immigrants will continue to come to Israel and become Israelis under the Law of Return though not halakhic Jews.It is a compelling Zionist priority to enable them to join the Jewish people in a warm and encouraging manner. We must find a way to embrace rather than repel, to include rather than exclude, to expand our ranks rather than shrink them, to open the gates rather than create obstacles."

During the closed session Rabbi David Stav and Rabbi Seth Farber spoke to the international group of Jewish Agency delegates. Yesterday's votes are affecting Israel political alliances, with resignations and verbals attacks from many sides.

At the conclusion of the plenary session, in the video below, Rabbi Farber tried to summarize the complicated and heated issues for BJL.
