Afikim, Yad Ezra Or Yerushalayim, Olami, Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and ZAKA were participants in an unique event in honoring the 50th year of reunification of Yerushalayim on Sunday.

Over the past year, from around the world, letters of a special Unity Sefer Torah were purchased by doing acts of chesed, The Torah's final letters were filled in the Old City, at the Aish HaTorah auditorium in presence of over 350 Olami students, visiting guests and dignitaries, including Mayor Nir Barkat.

Afifkim Founder and President Rabbi Raphael B. Butler presented the Mayor with a digital listing of the more than 350,000 acts of chesed initiated by the writing of the Unity Torah.

Along with student musical performances and videos, Jerusalem50Awards were presented. Daniel Gofman was in attendance and accepted for his family. Milton Weinberg of South Africa, Milton Levine of Melbourne, Ricky Newman of Sydney, Grant Kurland of London, and Alex Rovt of New York, also each donated funds to enable 50 student trips to Israel.

Olami students appreciated the inspirational words of Rabbi Gavriel Friedman, before everyone  made their way down to the Kosel.

On the Kosel Plaza, after Rabbi Butler's words of welcome, Rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch said a perek tehhillim. Israel Education Minister Naftali Bennett was the keynote speaker at this part of the program hosted by the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.

Each of the student participants received a chumash, and three student representatives spoke on the significance of the experience.

The sefer Torah was led by ZAKA vehicles to Assaf's Cave at King David's Tomb, for the program finale. ZAKA, which in Hebrew, stands for Identification, Extraction and Rescue - True Kindness, was the grateful recipient of the Unity Torah. Donors, members of ZAKA, including, Yehuda Meshi-Zahav, danced the Unity Torah to the Aron Kodesh. A celebratory seudas mitzvah  was served in the courtyard of David's Tomb.

Special mention of thanks went to Rebbitzen Karen Hochberg of Jamaica Estates, NY, who worked tirelessly on the completion of the Unity Torah, planning, and the many events for the Jerusalem 50 Reunited project.
