During routine roadwork in Herzliya on El Al Street, a policeman noticed what is described as “kitchen parts and other items” in the dirt removed from the ground.

He immediately feared the items may be antiquities, and contacted the regional office of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), which responded to the scene and confirmed his suspicions.

The experts identified items dating back to the Romans.

As a result, the roadwork stopped and the site is not an antiquities site until cleared.
