Yeshiva Exemption from Disabled Access Draws Fire

By a vote of 30-13, the Knesset passed, Sunday, the preliminary version of a proposal by Finance Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni and Ethics Committee Chairman Yitzchak Vaknin to grant yeshivas an exemption from the requirement of making their buildings accessible to the disabled. The proposal now goes to the Knesset's House Committee to determine which committee will develop the bill for its first reading.

Chairman Yuval Wagner of "Access Israel" called for defeat of the measure, calling it, "the first legislation which overrides accessibility and breaks the principle of equality."
