- An 18-year-old man from Houston was arrested on Friday and charged with unlawfully distributing explosive making instructions and attempting to provide material support to ISIS.

In early August 2017, 18-year-old Kaan Sercan Damlarkaya, a U.S. citizen, allegedly began engaging in online communications with undercover FBI agents in which he shared intentions to travel overseas to fight for ISIS or commit an attack in the U.S. if he could not, according to a release from the United States Attorneys Office. The criminal complaint also alleges Damlarkaya provided instructions on how to build an AK-47 or AR-15 assault rifle to avoid detection from authorities.  According to the investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, Damlarkaya also allegedly provided a formula to alleged ISIS supporters for the explosive Triacetone Triperoxide, explained how to use the explosive in a pressure cooker device, discussed the use of a machete as an alternative to a gun, and claimed to carry a knife in the event he was ever stopped by law enforcement.

If convicted of unlawfully distributing explosives information or attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, Damlarkaya faces a possible 20-year-maximum term of imprisonment.
