A young Chilean Jew wearing a shirt emblazoned with the Israeli flag was stabbed multiple times by three men calling him a “murderer,” the Hebrew news site nrg reported on Sunday.

According to the report, based on items in the local press and on social media postings, the victim, Jorge Aker, was attacked on Friday in a park in the capital of the South American country by three men, who first threw a rock at him before punching and then stabbing him 40 times.

“Many of these will leave scars,” Aker told the media, showing the cuts to his arm and leg.

Aker is a member of “Hod Chile,” a Santiago-based Reform Jewish organization whose motto is “Jew for diversity.”

The organization El Movilh, which fights against homophobia condemned the attack as a hate crime “warranting all legal and social action,” adding, “Of course we will support any such action that the Jewish community — which has always exhibited solidarity with the victims of homophobia — decides to pursue.”
