Baltimore County police have identified the officer who fatally shot a woman who was involved in a barricade situation last month in Randallstown.

Police identified the officer who shot Korryn Gaines only as Officer First Class Ruby, a 16-year veteran of the department and a member of the Support Operations Division. Ruby was involved in another police-involved shooting in August 2007.

Under terms of the Baltimore County Police Department’s agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4, the department does not release the first names of officers involved in shootings.

Police said Gaines, 23, was shot by police after she pointed a Mossberg, pistol-grip shotgun at them and threatened to kill them inside her apartment in the unit block of Sulky Court.

Police said Gaines fired two rounds from the shotgun. Police went to her apartment to serve arrest warrants on her and her boyfriend. Gaines refused to comply and engaged police in an hours-long standoff, authorities said.
