The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of Maryland.

* effective this Tuesday afternoon and evening until 11:00 P.M.

* Primary threats include... isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible Summary...north-south squall line is gradually intensifying over central Pennsylvania into western Maryland. Damaging winds can be expected with this line of convection as it spreads toward New Jersey. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 70 statute miles east and west of a line from 25 miles south southwest of Baltimore Maryland to 40 miles north of Allentown Pennsylvania.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... Remember...a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
