Baltimore County Police are investigating an incident in Parkville where people playing the popular game Pokemon Go were robbed.
 
The investigation has indicated that just after midnight on July 7, several people were in a home playing Pokemon Go on their cell phones. The game directed the victims to a spot on Jasper Lane near an entrance to Belmont Park. After arriving at the spot, they were approached by two suspects. One of the suspects demanded property and displayed a handgun. The suspects took the victims’ cell phones and money before fleeing the scene.
 
The victims were not injured during the incident.
 
This incident is being investigated by the Parkville Precinct Investigative Services Team. Detectives will be working to determine if the victims were targeted because they were playing the game.

The Baltimore County Police Department offers the following advice to people who play Pokemon Go or any similar game.

  • Do not go anywhere alone. Always take a friend.
  • Do not go to any secluded area.
  • Stay in well-lit areas at night.
  • If you follow the game to an area that makes you uncomfortable, don’t continue.
  • Don’t play the game while driving.
  • Be aware of your surroundings while playing the game.
  • Playing the game does not grant the participant the right to enter onto private property. Participants should obtain the permission of the property owner before entering onto private property.
  • Report any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity to police immediately.
