Montgomery County's top prosecutor says Eulalio Tordil wasn't supposed to have the gun allegedly used to shoot and kill his wife and two others, and wound several others last week in suburban Washington.

At a bail hearing in Rockville Monday, Tordil was ordered held without bond.

State's Attorney John McCarthy said that after allegedly killing his wife outside a Prince George's County school Thursday, Tordil drove around the Washington metropolitan area.

After the shooting, McCarthy said, Tordil turned off his cell phone and was tough to track in his rental car. Tordil, an agent for the Federal Protective Service, took actions like that of an "experienced law enforcement officer," McCarthy said.

The gun used in the shootings was purchased in Las Vegas. Police believe it was bought after a protective order was filed on March 17. Under that order, Tordil had to turn over his firearms, and was put on administrative leave from his work, but the burden to turn in firearms is entirely on the gun owner, McCarthy said.

Tordil was ultimately apprehended not far from the scene of the second Friday incident in Silver Spring. McCarthy said Tordil stayed nearby because he lost his glasses and didn't want to drive far.
