Baltimore Students Change Lives at Israeli Summer Camp

Yeshiva University’s eighth annual “Counterpoint Israel Program” just wrapped up in Dimona, Arad, Beer Sheva, Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi.  The program served 300 Israeli campers from varied socio-economic backgrounds in five student-run camps. The month-long immersive service-learning initiative aims to empower the next generation of Israeli youth via an exciting, Jewish values-driven summer camp experience while simultaneously instilling a sense of civic responsibility within its Yeshiva University student volunteers. Sixty outstanding students from the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Panama participated, including 3 from Baltimore.

JERUSALEM, Israel – July 31, 2013 - For the eighth year in a row, Yeshiva University's Center for the Jewish Future (www.yu.edu/cjf) returned to the Israeli communities of Arad, Dimona, Beer Sheva, Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi to provide fun, educational and spiritually uplifting summer programming for 300 Israeli campers from varied socio-economic backgrounds.  From July 2-23, 60 exceptional undergraduate students from North America, the United Kingdom and Panama, including Baltimore natives Jeni Rossberg, Rachel Gold and Yaniv Singerman, ran special camps under the banner of the “Counterpoint Israel Program."  The month-long immersive service-learning initiative aims to empower the next generation of Israeli youth via an exciting, Jewish values-driven summer camp experience while simultaneously instilling a sense of civic responsibility within its Yeshiva University student volunteers.
