Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV),  today deplored the “disgraceful” UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which passed yesterday 14-0 with the United States abstaining.

CJV President Emeritus Rabbi Pesach Lerner made the following statement:

The resolution is outstandingly bad, even by UN standards. It calls for a ceasefire independent of, and indeed prior to, release of the hostages. This will permit Hamas to claim that Israel’s ongoing military effort to free the hostages is the reason it is not releasing them.

Still worse, the UN chose to trot out religion in a particularly disgraceful fashion. Hamas showed no more respect for religious holidays on Simchas Torah in 2023 than the Arab armies did on Yom Kippur in 1973. Indeed, Islamic terror groups like Hamas often specifically plan violent attacks during Ramadan. Yet the resolution hypocritically demands that Israel cease its urgent and ongoing efforts during that holiday, and even calls for a “lasting sustainable ceasefire” without destruction of the Hamas terror organization. To anyone familiar with Hamas and ceasefires, this is a veiled call for renewed Hamas atrocities.

Russia, the UK, France, and indeed the United States all demonstrated why antisemitism is out of control in their home countries.
