Three IDF soldiers were moderately injured and two lightly injured after a mortar fell near Nirim in southern Israel. The soldiers were evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment. Their families have been notified. Hamas renewed its rocket fire on Israel early Friday morning, launching rockets towards communities near the border, as well as to Sderot and Ashkelon. In one kibbutz, a rocket hit a vehicle, while in another kibbutz, a rocket landed in a packaging plant and caused heavy damage. The owner of the vehicle which was hit is a member of Mefalsim's security chapter, and he and his colleagues were in the yard when they heard the siren. They did not manage to run for shelter, and laid on the ground during the siren. They were not hit by the shrapnel which damaged the home.

Rabbi David Lau, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, visited artillery battalions on the Gaza border. The rabbi went from one battalion to the next and met hundreds of soldiers. At the 439th Battalion, Rabbi Lau met the brigade commander, Yotam Burstein, who told him about the brigade and battalion's work and the soldiers' high morale. The commander related that "the battalion was the first to be called up on Simchat Torah and was the first to fire at Gaza, precisely and quickly, and I'm proud of that." The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday night that Israel and Hamas have agreed to extend the temporary truce in Gaza for an eighth day. Egyptian officials cited in the report said that the deal is expected to involve the release of another 10 hostages, mostly women and children. The report has not yet been confirmed by Israel.

U.S. forces stationed in Syria were attacked Tuesday, Pentagon officials said Thursday, marking the 74th time since Oct. 17 that troops were targeted in the Middle East. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh confirmed the attack during Thursday's Department of Defense briefing. "There was an attack on Tuesday…that brings the total attacks up to 74 attacks from October 17th until now," she said, adding that there were no additional attacks over the last two days. Yuval Doron Kastelman, 38, Z'L, from Mevaseret Zion, was pronounced dead at the hospital on Thursday evening after he suffered critical injuries in the shooting attack at the entrance to Jerusalem on Thursday morning. Kastelman, an attorney at the Civil Service Commission, was on his way to work when he noticed the attack on the other side of the road. He stopped his car to neutralize the terrorists, but soldiers who were at the scene thought he was a terrorist and shot him. Kastelman was to have celebrated his birthday on Friday.
