A coalition of 17 state attorneys general is calling for the cancellation of up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt for all borrowers.
The Democratic attorneys general, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, sent a letter to congressional leaders on Friday supporting resolutions that call on President Biden to use executive action to forgive outstanding student loans.

Nearly half of people who contract mild or moderate cases of COVID-19 still experience symptoms six months later, according to a new study published by Israeli researchers.
The research, which is slated to be published this month in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infection, evaluated 103 people over the age of 18 who had coronavirus between April and October 2020. The people had mild to moderate symptoms, meaning that while they were not asymptomatic, they were not hospitalized with a more severe case of the disease.
Participants were interviewed up to four times over the course of the study.

The Biden administration has waived ethics rules to allow a top Department of Homeland Security official to make policy in areas on which she lobbied for her former employer, Amnesty International.
Why it matters: The waiver is the first granted under Biden’s new ethics pledge, which allows the White House to shelve restrictions on former lobbyists in the administration if doing so is deemed in the national interest.

The owner of a popular Instagram meme account has raised almost half a million dollars for Planned Parenthood in the wake of longtime conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s death.
Tommy Marcus began the campaign by posting his $100 donation to the reproductive health care nonprofit in Limbaugh’s “honor.”

Two people aboard a military jet died after it crashed near an airport in Alabama on Friday evening, officials said.
A military plane was flying from Columbus, Mississippi, to Tallahassee, Florida, when it crashed in a wooded area near the Montgomery Regional Airport around 5 p.m.

Israel’s top-secret nuclear research facility near the southern city of Dimona is undergoing a major expansion, according to a British report.
The UK’s Guardian newspaper reported the development on Thursday, saying the construction work is visible in satellite imagery published by an independent expert group.

Israel's coronavirus czar Nachman Ash said on Sunday that a coronavirus variant originating in Uganda has been found in the country, without giving further details, The Times of Israel reported.
"We are still not sure of its clinical impact," he said.
At a press conference with reporters, Nachman Ash reminded the public "the pandemic is not yet behind us" and urged Israelis to avoid large gatherings during the Purim holiday which will take place on Thursday evening.

One person was reportedly wounded in the attack that followed a raid on an Islamic State hideout
At least four rockets hit the Al-Balad airbase north of the Iraqi capital on Saturday, as security sources said that a local contractor for a US company managing Iraq's F-16s was wounded, according to AFP.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, although earlier, Iraqi security forces raided an Islamic State hideout plains of Tarmiyah, with clashes leaving five jihadists and two pro-government fighters dead, according to the Iraqi military.

Israel's Minister of Environmental Protection to present plan on Monday to clean up beaches
Israel's government on Sunday urged the population not to go to the beaches from north to south of the country due to pollution caused by a tar spill that reached the coast.
A joint notice issued by the Ministry of Health, Interior and Environmental Protection called on the public "not to go (to beaches) to swim, or do sports or leisure activities until further notice."
"Exposure to tar could harm public health," it added.

Prof. Nachman Ash says that Israel will soon need to switch to the inoculations manufactured by Moderna to fight COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health announced today (Sunday) to the HMOs that Israel only has enough Pfizer vaccines left for roughly two weeks, after which the Moderna vaccines will be brought into circulation.
Channel 12 reported that shipments are expected to arrive soon with hundreds of thousands of vaccines, but they are earmarked for those who have been vaccinated in the first dose and have not yet received the second.
