IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, during his nightly press briefing on Sunday, discussed the release of the third group of hostages from Hamas captivity. "Today, Hagar, Ofri, Yuval, Oriya, Chen, Agam, Gal, Tal, Dafna, Ela, Elma, Aviva, Ron and Avigail returned home. 4-year-old Avigail Idan, orphaned after her parents were murdered by the brutal terror organization Hamas, is a hero and is a living example that the war against Hamas is uniquely justified. This is a war against an evil and cruel enemy, and like Avigail, each and every one of the returned hostages has family or close ones who were murdered or are still being held hostage. That is an unbearable pain to carry," Hagari stated. The spokesman continued: "Elma, who was returned to us in critical condition, was immediate...

A few days after the outbreak of the war, I had an article published in these pages giving people some general tips and suggestions on how to deal with weight gain attained over the holiday period, and how to get back on track to shed weight and promote better health.  Like all of my Jerusalem Post articles, it later appeared on social media.  One person commented and was very upset that this article was posted while we were in the grips of a national tragedy and a war.  First of all, this article had been prepared for publication before the Succot holiday even started. Second, and I think far more important, our health cannot take a back seat even when the worst of the worst has happened.  It is especially important in the most stressful and pressured times, that we st...
Shavua tov! Tonight, the words of Havdalah at the close of Shabbat shined with a new light: “For the Jewish people there was light and joy and gladness and honor.”But it’s not over yet. Hamas captured precious souls and is now trying to capture our minds. To torment and manipulate us, and to violate agreements up until the final moment. Our happiness is mixed with frustration, our excitement mixed with rage.Yet after all the horrific videos we have seen, it’s nice to see some videos of rejoicing. Because beautiful dreams do come true, and help to dispel nightmares. We see people we do not know, yet know so well, emerging from the deepest darkness into the most radiant light. We saw Yaffa Adar, grandmother of 8, when she was kidnapped on a motorcycle, and now we see h...

New details have emerged about the failures of the security forces to prevent the Oct. 7th massacre. Channel 12 News reports that the attack was originally planned for last Passover Eve, but the IDF detected signs of the attack and raised its alert level to the point that Hamas cancelled the attack. Hamas was concerned that the IDF had succeeded in infiltrating the command structure and ranks of their organization and worried about the plan leaking out. Two days ago, it was reported that a senior officer of the IDF's SIGINT unit 8200 had warned that Hamas was planning a large-scale invasion of Israel. The officer discovered Hamas's operational plan, which was eventually the one used, and shared the information with senior officials in 8200 and the Southern Command. The o...

Schneider Children’s Medical Center director Dr. Efrat Bron Harlev tells Channel 12 news that the four children released from Hamas captivity last night are in reasonably good health. She said that all the children lost weight, as would have been expected during their ordeal. The Health Ministry and Welfare Ministry provided the hospitals with protocols to follow regarding medical and psycho-social treatment of the hostages upon arrival. The protocols included strict instructions on how to avoid Refeeding Syndrome, a potentially fatal condition resulting from overfeeding...
