Some experts say unemployment fraud during the coronavirus pandemic could easily reach $400 billion, with most of that money likely ending up in the hands of international crime syndicates in China, Nigeria, Russia and elsewhere, Axios reports. The federal government has allocated more than $896 billion to state unemployment insurance programs since March 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, including enhanced benefits of $300 a week. But many states weren’t prepared for the influx of unemployment claims filed in the first few months of the pandemic due to ancient computer systems, fewer workers to process claims and strict eligibility requirements. The Weekly Shtikle is dedicated le'iluy nishmas my Oma, Chaya Sara bas Zecharia Chaim, a"h.  This week's shtikle is dedicated for a refuah sheleimah for my father. Please include Reuven Pinchas ben Yehudis in your tefillos. The gemara (Berachos 10a) recounts that Rabbi Meir was having some difficulty with some neighbourhood hoodlums and prayed that they would meet an untimely demise. Rabbi Meir's wife, Beruryah took issue with this prayer. Referencing a pasuk we recited yesterday and today as a Rosh Chodesh addition, she declares the pasuk (Tehillim 104:35) states "yitamu chatta'im min ha'aretz," the sins shall cease from the land. It does not say chot'im, sinners. Furthermore, the end of the pasuk states that th...

Google is claiming it’s developed artificial intelligence software that can design chips in less than six hours compared with the months it would take humans to make a chip. In a paper in the journal Nature posted by CNBC, the tech giant’s engineers said the breakthrough could have “major implications” for the semiconductor sector. The AI has already been used to develop the latest of Google’s tensor processing unit chips that are used to run AI-related tasks. “We showed that our method can generate chip floorpans that are comparable or superior to human experts in under six hours, whereas humans take months to produce acceptable floorpans for modern accelerators,” the authors wrote in their conclusion. Baltimore, MD - June 11, 2021 - Blue bags. That's what many in the Baltimore community call them. When in desperate need for a bag to wrap a soiled diaper, hold garbage in a car, protect black hats around the Baltimore community on rainy days, or hold  heels while walking home from Shul on Shabbos. Customers of 7-Mile Market have many uses for those useful and memorable blue bags. But it looks like those blue bags will be put on display at the National History Museum, although the Glazers might still call them by the catchy name, "blue-bags".                                      &n...
Ohio is one step closer to a major expansion of its school choice programs. On Wednesday evening, the Ohio Senate passed its version of the Ohio biennial budget that includes significant changes, and advances Agudath Israel’s legislative priorities. In addition to increasing the maximum voucher amounts of the EdChoice Scholarship (from $4,650 to $5,500 for K-8th grade students and from $6,000 to $7,500 for high schoolers), the Senate created several new programs that advance the cause of school choice.   The Senate proposal creates education savings accounts for every single student whose family income is below 300% of the federal poverty level. These savings accounts will be worth $500 per student in each of the next two years and can be spent on educational activities ...

I love the game of Ping Pong. Yes, I know it’s really called Table Tennis, but between you, me and the fly on the wall, no one calls it that. During a tournament, for example, one of my greatest motivations to win is because I fully understand that if I dare lose, I will have to suffer the terrible consequence of having to watch the next two opponents play. Let me tell you something about Ping Pong. In the realm of sports spectators, being a spectator of Ping Pong is by far the most painful.   If you are not sure what I mean, just watch one live Ping Pong game and you will know exactly what I am talking about. As you watch the little white ball go back and forth, your delicate neck will be forced to turn left and right, left and right, and so on, about 100 times! When you wake ...
In Moshe Rabeinu’s handling of the conflict with Korach, we see many of his greatest talents on display.  Many of the P’sukim cry out for explanation and understanding of what our greatest teacher was thinking at that precise moment.  Why does he respond to some challenges and not to others, why does he become angry at some provocations yet remain stoic in the face of a seemingly greater insult?  When one closely examines the words and context of the P’sukim, it becomes very clear that Moshe Rabeinu was not only Ish Hashem and our greatest Navi, but a skilled therapist, advocate and psychologist as well. The initial challenge comes with Korach’s accusation that “You have taken to much for your self, the entire nation is holy…why have you...
