Problems with the mail persist for tens of thousands of people in the eastern end of Baltimore County, according to their representative in Congress Democrat Dutch Ruppersberger.

Ruppersberger gave Postmaster General Louis DeJoy an ultimatum, demanding answers by the close of business Friday.

From Dundalk and Essex to the Loch Raven Post Office in Towson, complaints about severe disruptions in mail delivery keep piling up.

Ruppersberger said his office gets hundreds of constituent complaints each week about persistent, severe and life-threatening mail delays at six post offices in his district.

Ruppersberger requested inspector general audits of the post offices in the following locations:

  • Dundalk
  • Essex
  • Rosedale
  • Parkville
  • Middle River
  • Loch Raven

He wrote to DeJoy demanding answers, data and a high-level sitdown.

The United States Post Office sent its response in Friday via email.

According to the congressman's office, from an aide to DeJoy, who largely blamed COVID-19 for disrupting supply chains and logistics, blamed Congress for disrupting the labor market.

"It is now less urgent to find gainful employment," the letter states, due to "congressionally mandated benefits." Like emergency leave and expanded unemployment, which "have had the predictable effect of restricting the available labor pool." Read more at WBAL
