Due to potentially slippery and hazardous conditions, the National Weather Service has extended the winter weather advisory period.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County is under a winter weather advisory until 1 p.m. Tuesday, after the National Weather Service extended the advisory period that was to end at 10 a.m.
Snowfall in the Baltimore metro area has ranged from 0.2 to 1.4 inch, according to preliminary data released Tuesday morning.

BCAUSE Program Provides Assistance with Aging in Place
TOWSON, MD — The Baltimore County Department of Aging today announced the Baltimore County Age-Friendly Upgrades for Seniors (BCAUSE) program, which offers Baltimore County homeowners over the age of 65 the opportunity to receive home repairs or safety modifications to help enable them to stay in their homes in order to age safely in place. Ben Gurion Airport is now closed for incoming and outgoing commercial flights.
It is possible to request permission to leave Israel for emergencies, see the application here. However, as above, there are no commercial flights. Hence, anyone who receives permission will need to travel by private plane.

The World Health Organization issued a list of interim recommendations Tuesday regarding use of the mRNA-1273 vaccine developed by Moderna for used against the coronavirus.
Under the recommendations issued by the WHO Tuesday, pregnant women should not be given the vaccine in normal circumstances, with exceptions for women who are in high-risk groups.
“While pregnancy puts women at a higher risk of severe COVID-19, the use of this vaccine in pregnant women is currently not recommended, unless they are at risk of high exposure (e.g. health workers),” the WHO said.

Twitter Inc. permanently removed the account of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell late Monday night for allegedly repeatedly violating the company's policy on election misinformation.
Twitter decided to ban Lindell, due to consistent breaches of its civic integrity policy, a spokesperson said in a statement. The policy was implemented last September and is targeted at combating disinformation, although its rules are difficult to follow.

A bunker containing 100-year-old tefillin hidden from the Nazis in Holocaust has been discovered in the ruins of the Warsaw ghetto, the Shem Olam Institute reported.
In recent years, Polish authorities have begun to demolish buildings inside the Warsaw ghetto to turn them into residential buildings in a process of urban renewal. Following one building’s demolition, construction workers discovered an entrance to a bunker dug in preparation for the 1943 Warsaw ghetto uprising. One of the Polish construction workers on the site who entered the bunker to clear it out discovered 10 pairs of tefillin that had been hidden behind books and other items.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Monday that he won't vote to kill the filibuster "under any condition," drawing a hard line against mounting pressure from progressives.
Manchin, speaking to reporters in the Capitol, reiterated that he does not support going "nuclear" to gut the 60-vote legislative filibuster and indicated that there was no timeline where, if Republicans blocked legislation, he would change his mind.

The Senate on Monday confirmed Janet Yellen as the first woman to lead the Treasury Department, where her immediate priority will be addressing the coronavirus recession.
Yellen, a Democrat, was confirmed by the Senate 84-15, with broad bipartisan support. All 15 "no" votes came from Republicans.
The Senate Finance Committee unanimously approved Yellen’s nomination last week, with Democrats and even Republicans touting her qualifications despite GOP opposition to much of President Biden’s economic agenda.

Portland, Ore. Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) reportedly pepper sprayed a man who accosted him over the city's COVID-19 guidelines outside of a restaurant on Sunday.
A police report first reported by The Oregonian indicated that Wheeler was followed to his car by a man who was recording him on a cell phone and harassing him about an alleged violation of the city's rules.

House Democrats on Monday sent to the Senate their single impeachment article against former President Trump, officially putting the former president on trial for his role in the deadly mob attack on the Capitol earlier in the month.
The ceremonial delivery — a somber cross-Capitol march performed by the nine Democratic House members who will prosecute the case — was a legal formality. The House had impeached Trump 12 days ago, and Senate leaders have agreed to postpone the start of the public trial until the week of Feb. 8.
