Israel is expected to increase fines and ban international travel to members of the public that fail to adhere to coronavirus restrictions in an effort to beat back soaring infection rates in the country.
The government is expected to decide on Monday to dramatically increase fines currently set at NIS 5,000 ($1,528), which mainly target "non-essential" businesses skirting coronavirus restrictions amid the country's current lockdown, according to Hebrew-language broadcaster Channel 13.

Republicans say the chances that former President Trump will be convicted in an impeachment trial are plummeting, despite lingering anger among some Republicans over his actions.
Only five or six Republican senators at the most seem likely to vote for impeachment, far fewer than the number needed, GOP sources say.
A two-thirds majority vote would be necessary for a conviction, something that would require at least 17 GOP votes if every Democrat votes to convict Trump.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious disease expert, said on Thursday that based on recent seven-day averages, coronavirus infections may be about to hit a plateau in the United States.

Thursday was the final day for public comment on the third draft of California’s Department of Education’s ethnic studies curriculum in state high schools. To put it mildly, this is bad news for California Jews and by extension to American Jews everywhere.
In 2016, California state legislators passed a bill, AB 2016, mandating that the state’s Department of Education (CDE) develop a model ethnic studies curriculum for use in high school ethnic studies courses.
Although the bill stated that the goal of such courses was “preparing pupils to be global citizens with an appreciation for the contributions of multiple cultures,” the politically motivated educators appointed by the CDE to help draft the model curriculum had other ideas.
