'What about former Democratic Presidents when Republicans get the majority in 2022?' John Cornyn asks

US Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, warned Saturday that the upcoming impeachment trial for former US President Donald Trump could open the door to more retroactive impeachments.

"If it is a good idea to impeach and try former Presidents, what about former Democratic Presidents when Republicans get the majority in 2022?" the Senate veteran said in a tweet tagging Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat.

"Think about it and let’s do what is best for the country," he added.
