Israel’s prime minister has congratulated Chancellor Angela Merkel on securing a fourth term while not mentioning the rise of a far-right party in Germany’s election.
Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Merkel’s win on Monday in a toast for the Jewish New Year.
He made no mention of Alternative for Germany, or AfD, winning seats in parliament. Major Jewish groups have expressed alarmand dismay over the rise of the nationalist party.
Israel was established in 1948 on the ashes of the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews were systematically killed by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II.
The countries only established diplomatic relations in 1965.
Today, Germany is a key Israeli ally in Europe, and assumes responsibility for the atrocities committed ...

The explosion of a hot water boiler to the mikve of the Beit Chabad in Bulgaria has left the site unusable.
The powerful blast rocked the Chabad House according to shaliach Rav Yossi Solomon, who explains almost the entire Beis Chabad was destroyed as a result of the explosion. B’chasdei Hashem there are no reports of injuries.

The Trump administration clarified Monday that it’s not seeking to overthrow North Korea’s government after the president tweeted that Kim Jong Un “won’t be around much longer” and Pyongyang interpreted it as a declaration of war.
Ratcheting up the rhetoric further, the North’s top diplomat also argued Monday that Trump’s comment gives it the right to shoot down U.S. warplanes in international airspace.
Trump’s Saturday tweet said: “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!” Trump also used “rocket man” for Kim in his speech to the U.N. General Assembly last week.

In June 1967, IDF paratroopers liberated the Kosel from Jordanian occupation while other IDF forces miraculously liberated all of Yehuda and Shomron. An official event marking the 50th anniversary of the event is set to take place in Gush Etzion on Wednesday, 7 Tishrei, a most fitting venue for such an event. Invitations have been sent out to local, national and diplomatic officials.
European Union Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufrethas announced he will not attend, preferring to use his absence to stage a formal protest to the venue of the event, over the Green Line.

Every year on Yom Kippur, thousands require MDA services. In light of the amount of emergency calls to MDA on the holiest day of the year, MDA is enhancing its preparedness level leading up to the Yom Kippur fast set to begin Friday, erev Yom Kippur, and end motzei Yom Kippur. MDA will enhance its stations throughout Israel with EMTs, paramedics, ambulances, mobile intensive care units and Medi-Cycles in order to provide medical treatment to those who require it.

The Israeli police arrested four suspects, including the directors and employees of the association, as part of an investigation by the police against the organization on suspicion of offenses contrary to the Organ Transplant Law.
“This is a complex and sensitive investigation, during which police investigators took testimonies that raised suspicion of offenses contrary to the Organ Transplant Law. We view such acts severely and will not allow any harm to the value of human life in Israel,” the police said.

US Special Envoy Jason Greenblatt is back in Israel according to White House sources, once again hoping to advance the diplomatic progress between Israel and the PA (Palestinian Authority).
“While President Trump had productive meetings with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas at the United Nations, we always said that the UN would not focus on peace conversations and that those conversations would be happening on a separate track,” the official said in a statement.

The Me’aras HaMachpelah on Tuesday, 6 Tishrei 5778, will be open exclusively to Jews, including Ulam Yitzchak. As such, many rabbonim and admorim are expected to visit ahead of Yom Kippur.
The holy site will open at 4:00am for slichos and tefilos neitz and remain open to Jews only throughout the day. Thousands of mispallalim are expected during the day from around the country. The Karlin-Stoliner Rebbe Shlita has signaled he plans to visit, as is HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita, who will lead a Hisvaadus beginning at 10:30pm. The rav will deliver words of chizuk and hisorarus ahead of slichos, which will be held in the Ulam Yitzchak.
Rabbonim from around the country, MKs, cabinet ministers and other officials are expected to attend slichos.

Israel Police uncovered a forgery operation for the manufacture of identity cards in the PA (Palestinian Authority) village of Yata.
According to the police spokesman’s report, forged Israeli ID cards and other documents were sold to PA (Palestinian Authority) residents to facilitate their entry into Green Line Israel. The investigation was launched following the arrest of a PA resident a few months ago, a female, who was determined to be carrying forged documents.
Police confiscated a computer, printer, and other files, documents and office equipment. A Yata resident in his 30s who was present was taken into custody.
According to border police officials, forged documents were sold for 1,000 to 2,500 shekels.

North Korea’s top diplomat said Monday that President Donald Trump’s tweet that leader Kim Jong Un “won’t be around much longer” was a declaration of war against his country by the United States.
Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho told reporters that what he called Trump’s “declaration of war” gives North Korea “every right” under the U.N. Charter to take countermeasures, “including the right to shoot down the United States strategic bombers even they’re not yet inside the airspace border of our country.”

The Charedi community of Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem has been waiting for years for an expansion to their neighborhood. However, the contractor in charge of construction shocked the community and the company who won the tender for building the expansion by beginning work on Rosh Hashanah, desecrating one of the holiest days on the Jewish calendar.
According to a report by Kikar Shabbat news site, numerous residents complained of hearing tractors and work vehicles begin construction on the new neighborhood to the community on both days of Rosh Hashanah. The last-gasp Republican drive to tear down President Barack Obama’s health care law essentially died Monday as Maine Sen. Susan Collins joined a small but decisive cluster of GOP senators in opposing the push.
The Maine moderate said in a statement that the legislation would make “devastating” cuts in the Medicaid program for poor and disabled people, drive up premiums for millions and weaken protections Obama’s law gives people with pre-existing medical conditions. She said the legislation is “deeply flawed,” despite eleventh-hour changes its sponsors have made in search of support.

Iranian state television released video footage Friday claiming to show the launch of a new type of medium-range ballistic missile which they claimed could reach Israel, a few hours after it was displayed during a military parade in Tehran.
But it turns out Iran never fired a ballistic missile, sources say.
The video released by the Iranians was more than seven months old – dating back to a failed launch in late January, which resulted in the missile exploding shortly after liftoff, according to two U.S. officials.
President Trump had originally responded to the reported launch in a late-Saturday tweet, saying, “Iran just test-fired a Ballistic Missile capable of reaching Israel. They are also working with North Korea. Not much of an agreement we have!”

A group affiliated with the Women of the Wall (WoW) organization have turned to the Jerusalem Magistrate Court requesting the removal of immunity from Rav of the Kosel and Holy Sites Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, to permit him to stand trial as a result of the security inspection that they are subjected to at the Kosel Plaza.
In their petition to the court, it was written, among other things: “The rav is responsible for the Kosel Heritage Foundation, which is responsible for securing the Kosel and financing the expenses of the ushers as well as setting the standards regarding entry to the Kosel.
