Health Minister Yaakov Litzman is demanding accountability following the latest Chilul Shabbos involving the infrastructure of the light rail. According to a Hamodia report, Litzman met with Welfare & Social Affairs Minister Chaim Katz to express the outrage of the community over the latest desecration of the holy days. According to Litzman, the work was done without obtaining the necessary permits, and while officials in Katz’s office were aware of this, they permitted the Chilul Shabbos nonetheless, despite lacking the permits. One of the possibilities is that officials in the construction company or railway believed the permits were automatically renewed, without bothering to make certain this was so. The report states the heads of the chareidi parties in Knesset are d...
Baltimore, MD - Sept. 25, 2017 - “I have difficulty in hearing and therefore understanding when people speak.  When I go to a lecture or drasha, I don't get the whole message and feel left out of the group.  When I can get the whole message, partially by listening but mostly by the captioning, I do get the message being conveyed and feel more to be included in the community.” With this message, Dina Cotton approached the Macks Center for Jewish Education 10 months ago with a plea to help get captions on videos, especially Rabbanit Mizrachi’s videos shown by Women’s Institute of Torah before each yom tov. The signing community, i.e. people with a hearing loss who use sign language, is well-served here in Baltimore under the Macks Center for Jewish Edu...
House Speaker Paul Ryan promised Monday that Washington will make sure that the people of hurricane-devastated Puerto Rico will “have what they need.” The Wisconsin Republican’s statement came as authorities struggle to provide adequate relief to the more than 3 million U.S. citizens on the island territory, which is without power and has seen terrible devastation. The Israel Air Force has completed the probe into the fatal crash of an apache combat helicopter that killed the pilot, Major (reserves) David Zohar 43, from Haifa, and leaving his co-pilot seriously injured. Following the crash in August, in line with standard operating procedure, all apache choppers were grounded. Revised protocol for steering column maintenance has been devised to prevent additional cases in the future. In this case, it is reported the chopper’s steering column disengaged from the joystick about 45 minutes into the flight, leading to the fatal crash. With the cause of the malfunction determined, the order grounding the squadron was lifted and the apaches will return to regular training and operational flights in the coming days.
John McCain faced a choice that balanced friendship, party loyalty and his convictions. He made the decision some of his closest advisers expected. Looking at the twilight of his career and a grim cancer diagnosis, the Republican senator from Arizona who prides himself on an independent streak could not be moved to go along with a last-ditch GOP push to overhaul the nation’s health care system. Those close to him say he wrestled with the choice — the legislation was championed by his best friend in the Senate — but rarely strayed from his intention to send a message to the institution where he’s spent three decades. That message was bipartisanship and what he cast as the integrity of the Senate process that insists on debate and often yields compromise. The...

She told police the estimates she received of 5,000 shekels were far more than she could afford. Border police from the station did not hesitate, as they were quick to respond and head to the apartment to freshen it up and give it a paint job. They team completed the w...

Poised to reveal a tax plan that is a pillar of his economic policy, President Donald Trump is promising “the largest tax cut in the history of our country.” Trump’s declarations came as the health care legislation brought forward by Republicans teetered near failure. He said his “primary focus” is the tax overhaul plan, which would be the first major revamp of the tax system in three decades. Trump has promised economic growth of 3 percent, and insists that slashing taxes for individuals and corporations is the way to achieve it. He said the tax plan that the White House and Capitol Hill Republicans have been working on for months is “totally finalized.” He was speaking on the tarmac at the Morristown Municipal Airport. The Israel effort to prevent the Palestinian Authority (PA) from joining Interpol, the International Police Organization, has been unsuccessful so far. This afternoon it became clear that the attempt to have the Interpol Executive Committee reject the PA's application had failed. Israel will therefore have to direct its efforts towards Interpol’s General Assembly, which will convene for its annual meeting in China tomorrow (Tuesday) and vote on new members. The General Assembly is expected to approve the PA's bid to join the international law enforcement body. Israel has waged a wide-spread diplomatic battle over the last several days to prevent the PA's imitative from succeeding. Israel seeks to strengthen the standards required to join Interpol. The US has stood ...
The state prosecutor is investigating former Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance, a source told the 11 News I-Team on Friday. The investigation started earlier this year. According to the source, the investigation is looking at Dance's publicized relationship with a company called Supes Academy, specifically allegations of possible bribery. The consulting firm was involved in a kickback scandal with Chicago Public Schools that led to prison sentences for the former CEO of Chicago Public Schools and a former co-owner of Supes Academy. In 2014, an ethics panel for the Baltimore County School Board found Dance violated rules when he took a side job as a consultant with Supes Academy while he was superintendent. The state prosecutor said he cannot confirm or deny...
Governor Larry Hogan’s approval rating stands at 62-percent, according to  a new Goucher College Poll. Poll Director Dr. Mileah Kromer says the rating is down from the 70-percent  the Republican received in a similar poll conducted in September of last year, and 63-percent in a similar poll conducted in February. Read the Goucher Poll results here "I don't know how much we can read into that. 70 (percent) is such a high approval rating for any governor to maintain, particularly for a Republican governor in a 'blue state,' " Kromer told WBAL NewsRadio 1090. "The larger story is that over the last five Goucher Polls since he had taken office, he has been able to maintain a strong approval rating from a majority of Marylanders." Since October, 2015, Hogan&#...

A new study finds that only 51% of haredi men are working, far less than the government's goal of 63% by 2020. A new report shows that the number of haredi men integrating into the workforce has slowed, and notes that the government will likely not meet the haredi employment goals it has set for itself. According to the study, which was carried out by the Finance Ministry, only 51% of haredi men are working, 2% less than the 53% that were working in 2015, and 12% less than the projected goal of 63% the government wants to reach by 2020. The report showed, however, that the rate of haredi employment has jumped dramatically since 2001, showing a 13% growth between the years of 2001 and 2015. The report also showed that the majority of haredi men entering the workforce today are...

That’s unbelievable.”Touting the success of the “Give Me Five” initiative that is currently in its third year, Bennett said he was focusing this school year on repairing what he c...
Austrian police say a passenger in a bus with 23 others on board narrowly averted tragedy after the driver lost consciousness, helping stop the vehicle at the point when it was already hanging over an Alpine abyss. A police statement says the driver fainted Saturday as the bus carrying French tourists was heading downhill from a pasture nearly 2,000 meters (about 6,600 feet) above sea level, east of the city of Innsbruck. It then gathered speed, repeatedly banging into the mountainside lining the road. The passenger dashed forward and applied the brakes. That, and a guide rail piercing the front of the bus, brought it to a halt, but only after the front end was already jutting over a 100-meter (330-foot) precipice. Police say 10 people needed medical help, of whom four were hospitalized...

U.S. Sen. John McCain says doctors have given him a “very poor prognosis” as he battles brain cancer. McCain underwent surgery in July for a brain tumor that was later found to be a form of glioblastoma, the same type of cancer that took the life of his former Senate colleague Edward M. Kennedy in 2009. McCain tells CBS’ “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday night that he thinks about Kennedy a lot. He says Kennedy continued to work despite the diagnosis and “never gave up because he loved the engagement.” McCain says he has “feelings sometimes of fear of what happens,” but counters that with gratitude for having lived “had a great life.” He adds: “it’s not that you’re leaving, it’s ...
