Baltimore, MD – Apr. 27, 2016 - A new era is beginning in Baltimore and I am very honored and appreciative to the voters for choosing me to be their voice in City Hall, and having confidence in me to help lead Baltimore City in a new direction.  I am thankful to the voters, supporters, donors, friends, and most important my family – my wife and daughter, parents, in-laws and the broader group of relatives who backed me from the start. I am thankful to the community, business, political and religious leaders who guided me throughout the campaign and gave me advice and support. I am proud of the campaign that we ran – focusing on the issues and the families of this district. As we launch a new era for Baltimore City, I also want to...
Washington - California Sen. Barbara Boxer says Carly Fiorina is the perfect running mate for Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz — she calls them “mean and meaner.” On a conference call Wednesday she told reporters Cruz wants to ship immigrants out and Fiorina “already shipped jobs out of America.” The California Democrat faced Fiorina in a nasty Senate race in 2010. She joked that having Fiorina back on the national stage reminds everyone she beat the former Hewlett Packard chief executive by 1 million votes in 2010 “and I love that.” House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Xavier Becerra says he welcomes the three Republican presidential hopefuls to this weekend’s state GOP convention. He says they won’t need ID to ent...
Baltimore City police are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting. Police said an officer shot a 13-year-old boy just after 4 p.m. in the unit block of Aisquith Street. Baltimore police Commissioner Kevin Davis said the boy was holding a replica semiautomatic pistol and tried to run when approached by officers. Davis said himself the gun was an absolutely convincing replica. Davis said the boy did not obey officers' commands to stop.
Washington - White House spokesman Josh Earnest is taking issue with Donald Trump’s assertion that foreign leaders are showing their lack of respect for President Barack Obama by declining to greet him at the airport when he visits their country. Trump noted in his foreign policy address Wednesday that neither Cuban President Raul Castro nor Saudi King Salman met Obama on the tarmac. Trump says “it’s called no respect, absolutely no respect.” But Earnest says it’s common for the president to be received by a lower level official so that the head of the government can later meet with the president more formally. Obama recently returned from a three-nation trip, and Earnest notes that the leaders of United Kingdom and Germany, two strong U.S. allies, ...
ANNAPOLIS (AP) -- Maryland elections board officials say voter turnout for a presidential primary is the highest in more than 34 years in the state. Nikki Charlson, deputy administrator of the state elections board, said Wednesday about 1.6 million people cast ballots during early voting and on Election Day. That's about 46 percent of registered voters. Absentee and provisional ballots have not been counted. Voter turnout this year is higher than the 1982 presidential primary, when it was about 45 percent. Other presidential primary years after that had lower voter turnout until Tuesday. Helping to drive turnout this year, Maryland's primary came as the presidential primaries are still unresolved, unlike in recent years. Also, Baltimore just moved its local electio...
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — The White House was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a man "threw personal belongings over the North Fence Line of the White House Complex," the Secret Service said. CNN reported President Barack Obama was inside at the time. According to the Secret Service, the suspect threw the items around 10:30 a.m. and was immediately taken into custody. WJLA confirmed the lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m. Metropolitan Police confirmed to WJLA they were investigating a suspicious package at 15th Street and New York Avenue NW. They said the Secret Service was involved, but it was not immediately known whether this incident was connected to the White House lockdown. The White House was also placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after th...
Washington - Donald Trump’s rivals are running out of chances to stop him from clinching the GOP nomination by the end of the primaries. Trump won more than 90 percent of the delegates at stake in the five contests on Tuesday. If Trump wins the Indiana primary next week, he will have a majority of the delegates awarded so far. That would put Trump on a firm path to win the nomination, giving him more room for error in upcoming contests in Nebraska, Oregon and Washington State. With 954 delegates, Trump has 77 percent of the delegates needed to win the nomination. The AP delegate count: Trump: 954. Ted Cruz: 562. John Kasich: 153. Needed to win: 1,237.
INDIANAPOLIS — Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz has tapped former technology executive Carly Fiorina to serve as his running mate. The Texas senator plans to unveil his pick for vice president Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis. That's according to a Republican with direct knowledge of Fiorina's selection, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized speak before the official announcement. "Carly is bright, knowledgeable, brings great financial expertise and she's a woman," said Gary Aminoff, the Los Angeles County co-chair of the Cruz campaign. Aminoff said he had also been told Fiorina was Cruz's choice. The 61-year-old Fiorina, a former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, has been a prominent Cruz ally ...
Pesach is here, and we are halfway through Chol Hamoed. This is a little reminder for you to help you be the best guest you can be - Pesach or anytime! As someone who has been privileged to be a guest as well as a host, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Pesach is an extremely expensive holiday. Offer to pay part of the costs of the family who will be hosting you by bringing along paper good, a monetary contribution, or perhaps some food items they will be needing, even uncooked. (I.e,. chip in for the meat, etc.) 2. Ask your host when the best time is for you to arrive for the second days. Don't just assume they would love to see you for the whole Chol HaMoed when they are in the midst of cooking and preparing for the last days. On the flip side, they might need extra help ...
Jerusalem - Amid increased visits by Jews to the Temple Mount over the intermediate days of Passover, MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) said on Wednesday that Jews who ascend to the Temple Mount are instigating war. In an interview with Israel Radio, Gafni said that, according to religious law, there is a prohibition that prevents Jews from visiting the site until a new temple is built. Gafni attributed the destruction of the Second Temple during Roman times to a similar failure to observe these religious bans. The MK cited these violations as a serious problem that afford Muslim extremists a world audience in which they can blame Israel for things “that appear far more grievous than they actually are.” Gafni argued that the need to ascend to the historical site ...
Washington -  In a rare formal policy speech, Republican front-runner Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to put American security “above all else” if elected president, warning allies they would be left to defend themselves if they don’t “pay their fair share.” He also called for an easing of tensions with Russia “from a position of strength, only.” “‘America first’ will be the major and overriding theme of my administration,” Trump said. Fresh off a sweep of five Northeast primaries, Trump sought to expand on foreign policy views that have lacked detail and worried experts in both parties. Still, he left major questions about his proposals unanswered, including his plan for defeating the Islamic State group, castin...
Belgium - Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam — Europe’s most wanted fugitive until his capture in Belgium last month — was transferred Wednesday to France and was to appear before investigating judges who will decide how to charge him, the French prosecutor’s office said. Prosecutors say Abdeslam, who was arrested in Belgium last month after four months on the run, was instrumental in coordinating logistics for the Nov. 13 attacks that killed 130 people at Paris night clubs, a noted music hall and the sports stadium outside the city. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the carnage. The quick, secret transfer surprised even Abdeslam’s lawyer in France, who rushed from Lille to join his client at the Palace of Justice, arriving in the...

We know there is a mitzva to eat Matzah on the first night of Pesach. How much Matzah should one eat? Does one fulfill the mitzva by eating a small crumb? The Shiur (minimum  amount) of the mitzva of Matzah is a “Kezayis”. The opinions vary, but a Kezayis is approximately an ounce of Matzah. The period of the Holocaust provided countless opportunities for Jews to display extraordinary acts of moral and spiritual Heroism. (Click HERE for examples of firsthand stories of moral heroism during the Holocaust told by my grandmother, Mrs. Miram Berger A”h) The following is a true story that took place in a concentration camp. Ephraim and Shlomo were two friends who resolved to look out for each other for the duration of the war. They knew that by sticking tog...
Brooklyn, NY - Police are looking for a man they say is responsible for drawing swastikas at five different locations in Marine Park earlier this week. On April 25 at about 4:20 a.m. the suspect — described as a white man — used a white marker to draw swastikas around the neighborhood, according to authorities. He allegedly drew the symbol on a garbage can cover and residential gate near Avenue S and Ryder Street; a traffic control box near Avenue S and East 38th Street; another garbage can cover near Avenue S and East 37th Street; and the front door of a residential building near East 35th Street and Avenue S. The NYPD has released a surveillance image of the suspect and describe him to be between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and was last seen w...
Hero of Gulf War and Kosovo had been shot down and trapped behind enemy lines. Now the Four Star General becomes USAF's first Jewish chief. For the first time since its founding in 1947, the United States Air Force is going to be under the command of a Jewish Chief of Staff. On Tuesday the Pentagon announced that it had appointed General David L. Goldfein to succeed incumbent USAF Chief of Staff, General Mark Welsh. Welsh is set to retire in July. With more than three decades of serving in the USAF, Goldfein has built an impressive record both as a pilot and officer. Goldfein is a veteran of the 1990-91 Gulf War, the 1998-1999 Kosovo War, and the war in Afghanistan. He flew combat missions in both the F-117 stealth fighter and F-16 Flying Falcon. During a mission over the f...
Western governments continue mass aid for PA after it promised to stop paying jailed terrorists' salaries, but new report exposes the lie. A shocking report on Wednesday reveals that the Palestinian Authority (PA) has fooled Western governments, raking in over a billion dollars in aid from them annually despite breaching their demands that it stop paying salaries to terrorist prisoners. The report by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), which can be read in full here, exposes how the PA has coped since August 2014, when - in the face of demands by the US and European donor countries that it stop paying salaries to jailed terrorists - it announced it would stop the terror funding. At the time, the PA claimed that it would not pay the jailed terr...
Tehran, Iran - Iran’s state TV is reporting the country’s president has harshly criticized a recent U.S. court ruling that allows the seizure of Iranian assets. The Wednesday report on the state TV website quotes President Hassan Rouhani as calling the ruling a blatant theft and an example of enduring American hostility toward Iran. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the families of victims of a 1983 bombing in Lebanon and other attacks linked to Iran can collect nearly $2 billion of frozen funds from Iran as compensation. Addressing a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani added, “The move indicates Washington’s continued hostility against the Iranian nation.”
Washington -  Defeated in the Northeast, Bernie Sanders’ movement for a political revolution is reaching a crossroads even as he vows to campaign against Hillary Clinton through the June primaries and into the Philadelphia convention. The Vermont senator said after losses to Clinton in Tuesday’s primaries in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Connecticut that he would now seek as many delegates as possible to “fight for a progressive party platform,” acknowledging that he had only a “very narrow path” to the nomination. “Every person in this country should have the right to vote for whom they want to see as president of the United States and what they want to see the agenda, Democratic agenda, look like,” Sanders said in a p...
