The director of national intelligence this week blamed NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden for advancing the development of user-friendly, widely available strong encryption, reports The Intercept. “As a result of the Snowden revelations, the onset of commercial encryption has accelerated by seven years,” James Clapper said during a breakfast for journalists hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. The shortened timeline has had “a profound effect on our ability to collect, particularly against terrorists,” he said. When pressed by The Intercept to explain his figure, Clapper said it came from the National Security Agency. “The projected growth maturation and installation of commercially available encryption — what they had forecasted for seve...
Voters in five states stretching from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast went to the polls on Tuesday. At the presidential level, Donald Trump crushed his two remaining competitors while Hillary Clinton looked well positioned to extend her delegate lead over Bernie Sanders. I picked some winners and some losers from the night that was. They’re below. – – – Winners – Donald Trump: This was an an absolutely sweeping across-the-board victory for the real estate mogul. From a delegate perspective, this may wind up being Trump’s single best night of the primary process. His massive wins in Connecticut and Maryland help him run up the delegate score. His big margin in Pennsylvania should be a persuasive argument for the 54 unbound delegates the stat...
Secretary of State John Kerry and his wife Teresa Heinz have invested millions of U.S. dollars through family trusts in at least 11 offshore tax havens, according to an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation, THE DAILY CALLER reports. The revelation comes on the heels of the release of the Panama Papers, a treasure trove of 11.5 million legal and financial records documenting how some of the world’s richest and most powerful people have used offshore bank accounts to conceal their wealth and avoid taxes. A DCNF investigation has confirmed that the former Massachusetts Democratic senator and his billionaire wife, using an elaborate set of Heinz family trusts, have invested “more than $1 million” each into 11 separate offshore accounts — mainly hedge...
Donald Trump won in all five Republican presidential primaries held on Tuesday – a clean sweep that illustrated his dominance along the Eastern Seaboard and prompted the real estate mogul to declare himself the “presumptive nominee.” In the Democratic race, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton won four of the five states in play on Tuesday: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vermont) won the primary in Rhode Island. In both parties, those results extended the front-runner’s advantage in convention delegates. Clinton appeared to have added 170 delegates to her lead over Sanders: By the Associated Press’s count, Clinton now has 88 percent of the delegates she needs to clinch the Democratic nomination. In the G...
As of today, April 27, Ted Cruz is mathematically eliminated from winning the Republican nomination outright. On April 2nd, THE GATEWAY PUNDIT predicted that Donald Trump would have 953 delegates as of yesterday (needing only 284 delegates for the nomination) and that Cruz would have 550 delegates as of yesterday (needing 687 to win the nomination). THE GATEWAY PUNDIT also predicted that only 634 delegates would remain and therefore Cruz would need more delegates than would be available. It is clear that Cruz was eliminated last night. It is not clear yet on how devastating the final numbers will be for Cruz. After winning all five primaries last night —  Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania — Trump has 949&n...
Washington - More than half of American voters believe that the system U.S. political parties use to pick their candidates for the White House is “rigged” and more than two-thirds want to see the process changed, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. The results echo complaints from Republican front-runner Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders that the system is stacked against them in favor of candidates with close ties to their parties – a critique that has triggered a nationwide debate over whether the process is fair. The United States is one of just a handful of countries that gives regular voters any say in who should make it onto the presidential ballot. But the state-by-state system of primaries, caucuses and conventions is complex. The co...
Washington - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says that it’s too soon for him to talk about potential vice presidents, but says he’s getting closer to that time. “We’re going to set up a committee in the not-too-distant future,” Trump told reporters Tuesday at Trump Tower as he celebrated his five-state sweep. Trump has been asked about rival Ted Cruz’s move to vetting candidates. He says Cruz is “wasting his time.” Trump was coy when asked whether he would put Chris Christie, who is in attendance, on his short list. “I think he’s fantastic,” he said of the New Jersey governor.
Washington - The United States borrowed an Israeli military tactic known as “roof knocking” to try to warn civilians before it dropped a bomb targeting Islamic State fighters in Iraq this month, but a woman was killed in the attack, a U.S. military official said on Tuesday. The controversial tactic consists of firing a warning missile above or near an intended target, to give residents time to flee before the real strike. The Israeli military used such “roof knocks” in the 2014 Gaza war, but a United Nations commission found in 2015 that the tactic was not effective, because it often caused confusion and did not give residents enough time to escape. The United States used the tactic in an April 5 operation in the Iraqi city of Mosul. One woman who initia...
New York - Twitter gets lots of grief from investors because it hasn’t taken over the world the way Facebook did, at least in terms of amassing users. But maybe it’s destined to stay small, serving a vital, if limited, role for the public. Maybe Twitter just isn’t meant to be an all-encompassing social utility. Maybe stock price is not the only lens through which a company can be valued. Twitter, perhaps even in spite of its difficult interface and site-specific lingo, has become a cultural force since its 2006 founding. “I don’t think at this point Twitter is ever going to reach the size of Facebook and I don’t know if that necessarily matters,” says Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst at research firm eMarketer. Assuming, that is, that T...
Jerusalem - Security forces shot and killed two young Palestinians, including a woman, who attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Israeli police said Wednesday. The pair approached security forces, and when they were ordered to stop, the woman pulled a knife out of her bag and waved it at an officer near her, police said. The forces opened fire, killing both Palestinians. Police said they found two knives on the body of the man as well. The incident occurred at the Qalandia checkpoint, a main crossing point from the West Bank into Jerusalem. It was the latest in a wave of violence that broke out last September. Since then, 28 Israelis and two Americans have been killed in stabbings and other attacks by Palestinian assailants. Near...
Washington -  Bolstering his grip on the Republican primaries, Donald Trump prepared Wednesday for a general election showdown with Hillary Clinton, accusing the Democratic front-runner of “playing the woman card” in her presidential campaign. Trump swept five states in Tuesday’s Northeast primaries, bringing him tantalizingly close to securing the Republican nomination against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. Clinton, meanwhile, is now 90 percent of the way to her party’s nomination after four solid victories of her own. Trump, the Republican businessman, pushed forward with his charge that Clinton is “playing the woman card,” telling CNN’s “New Day” in a telephone interview Wednesday that “she does ...
Anaheim, CA - Supporters and opponents of Donald Trump clashed Tuesday outside City Hall, and five people, including two little girls, were pepper-sprayed by a demonstrator during the heated confrontation, police said. No serious injuries and no arrests were reported in the clash as about 50 people confronted each other in the Orange County community. Backers waving U.S. flags and pro-Trump signs were met by opponents and a shouting match began. At one point, an opponent unleashed a hand-held pepper-spray device on the pro-Trump crowd. Five people, including two girls ages 8 and 11, were exposed to the eye-stinging spray, police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. Three were treated at the scene by paramedics. The man fled, but police were looking for him, Wyatt said. One woman wearing a re...

Jerusalem, Israel - Apr. 27, 2016 - Gan Sacher, the large, green park in Jerusalem, Israel, has traditionally been a gathering place for tens of thousands of Jewish families over Chol Hamoed Pesach. Bringing in tons of food for picnics, pounds of chicken and meat to grill, big family reunions are annually celebrated. This year saw a very different kind of event in Gan Sacher with the inaugural Geek PicNic Festival. Over three days of Chol Hamoed, the Geek PicNic was more about innovation than food. Founding partner of the Geek PicNic, Nick Goreley, was proud to be bringing the event, established five years ago, for first time out of Russia, to Jerusalem. Being called a "Geek" or "nerd" in the past was considered an insult. However, today a "Geek culture" is growing in Jerusalem, Israel. ...

Male and female terrorist launch knife attack at Kalandiya checkpoint before being shot dead by alert officers. A stabbing attempt took place on Wednesday at the Kalandiya checkpoint in northern Jerusalem. Two Arab terrorists, one male and one female, launched the attack before being shot dead. The knife-wielding terrorists tried to stab the Border Police officers stationed at the checkpoint, but did not manage to inflict any wounds before being subdued. As the armed Arabs approached, the officers repeatedly called for them to stop, but the terrorists continued to rapidly advance even threw a knife at the officers, at which point the forces opened fire. Kalandiya is located in the northeast of the capital, and is partially within the city limits of Jerusalem. While ther...
Catherine Pugh has claimed victory in Baltimore's Democratic mayoral primary, in a narrow victory over former Mayor Sheila Dixon. "Nobody gave this campaign a chance," Pugh told supporters. "This is one of the most expensive campaigns I've ever been involved in...but I am the Democratic nominee." She talked about her platform and message, including programs targeting low-income households and ex-offenders and an emphasis on keeping families in Baltimore. "This begins what I consider to be a milestone, but more importantly a direction for our city," Pugh said. "My message is about lifting the least of us while we lift all of us." Sources tell WBAL Dixon has called Pugh, a state senator, to concede. Shortly after Pugh's victory speech, Dixon made upbeat remarks o...
