By his side every moment stood his beloved wife Rochel who, together with their children, was fully devoted to his care. An immigration judge has ruled that Mahmoud Khalil can be deported from the United States due to his involvement in leading last year’s pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. Judge Jamee Comans in Louisiana ruled on Friday that Khalil, 30, can be deported, saying that the U.S. government met its burden of proof to remove him. Khalil's team of attorneys have until April 23 to file relief applications. On Tuesday, Comans ordered the federal government to provide evidence by Wednesday justifying its attempt to deport Khalil. Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded on behalf of the government in a roughly one-and-a-half-page letter sent to the court on Wednesday. He cited a provision in the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 to justify Khalil'...
There are two major concepts which form the driving force of the Hagaddah and the Seder in general.  First, is the  Chiyuv Sipur Yitzias Mitraim,  and the second is that one must feel as if he himself is being taken out of  Mitzraim on the night of Pesach, an idea discussed more fully in the Hagaddah. With these two concepts being the principal themes, how then does the final part of the Seder, Nirtzah, fit into this framework?  These intriguing, yet seemingly unrelated songs, raise a significant question as to exactly what role they play in the Seder and by extension, the Yom Tov of Pesach.  On a simplistic level one could answer their function is similar to that of the Afikoman and Mah Nishtana - to heighten the interest and enjoyment of the Seder for the...
As we bask in the afterglow of our Sedarim, where we retold the story of Yitzias Mitzrayim and we prepare for the last days of Pesach, where we mark Kriyas Yam Suf, it is easy to lose sight of the tumultuous days which occurred between these two amazing events.  B’nei Yisroel leave Mitzrayim behind in the distance, only to realize that the Mitzrim have had a change of heart again and were in hot pursuit.  Of course, we would assume that having just witnessed the Maccos and the Multiple Nissim that Hashem had done for them, that Bnei Yosroel would not be afraid – surely Hashem would protect them and punish the Mitzrim again.  Yet, they were afraid, they were “very” afraid.  The Torah tells us that they saw Mitzrayim chasing after them and they wer...

Baltimore County, MD - April 11, 2025  - I am proud of the robust investments in education, public safety, transportation, recreation and parks, road resurfacing, curbs, gutters and sidewalks and many other capital projects. In the 2nd District, we secured more than $3 million for the redevelopment of the Pikesville Armory, $9-plus million for sidewalk improvements in Pikesville and Windsor Mill and $5-plus million in recreation and parks enhancements in Gwynn Oak, Lutherville-Timonium, Ruxton and Pikesville. Additionally, every community in the 2nd District will see significant improvements in quality-of-life issues with this budget. None of this would have been possible without the support and efforts of our...

The New York Times is reporting that last month, a closed meeting was held in Tehran between Iranian officials and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to two sources who were present during the conversation, Khamenei was warned about the future of the nuclear program. The sources claimed that Khamenei received a clear message that he should consider dialogue- even direct - with the United States regarding the nuclear issue. They further warned him that avoiding such a move could lead to strikes on nuclear sites and harm the regime's stability. The meeting was held amid internal debates in Tehran regarding a response to US President Donald Trump's offer to renew negotiations on a new nuclear deal. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as well as the heads o...

Baltimore, MD - April 11, 2025 - Reposted upon request"Thank You for not burning plastic!" Baltimore, MD - May 2, 2017 - When Dr. Bert Miller was living in the Glenview Apartments (now the Fox Glen), in 1969, he noticed an elderly gentleman across the courtyard burning chometz on his porch.  When a fellow neighbor saw the billowing smoke, she thought the building was on fire and called the fire department. The Glen Avenue Fire Station firemen responded to the call, located about 150 yards away on the neighboring property, and put out the fire burning in his barbecue grill. As Dr. Miller explains, “The firemen soon realized that there was no out of control fire.  They learned that the man was performing one of the 3000-year-old Pesach rituals, likely the world’s olde...
