Two months after a historic delegation of prestigious rabbonim traveled to Toronto to raise funds to provide the recent waves of French immigrants to Israel with a solid education within the Charedi school system comes a second trip to benefit the recently established French Children’s Fund, this time to Chicago.
The Satmar Rebbe, HaRav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum and HaRav Malkiel Kotler will be joined by Hagaon HaRav Dovid Feinstein on their Tuesday journey to Chicago. Although the days preceding Rosh Hashana are extraordinarily busy for all involved, the need to provide for the spiritual health of the French Jews was significant enough to warrant making the trip during the final days of Elul.

The first Jewish ghetto was established in Venice 500 years ago this year, and for the first time, Jewish artifacts from the ghetto are on display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem; this ghetto was the first time that Jews had a permanent, designated place to live in Europe.
It has been 500 years since the founding of the Jewish Ghetto, the first in the world, in Venice in 1516. “People don’t understand the significance of the word ghetto, where it comes from and how the Jews lived there,” explained Gioia Sztulman of the Israel Museum, where an exhibition showing artifacts that survived centuries of exile and ghettos is currently on display.

The FBI is investigating suspected attempts to hack mobile phones used by Democratic Party officials as recently as the past month, four people with direct knowledge of the attack and the investigation told Reuters.
The revelation underscores the widening scope of the U.S. criminal inquiry into cyber attacks on Democratic Party organizations, including the presidential campaign of its candidate, former U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
U.S. officials have said they believe those attacks were orchestrated by hackers backed by the Russian government, possibly to disrupt the Nov. 8 election in which Clinton faces Republican Party candidate Donald Trump. Russia has dismissed allegations it was involved in cyber attacks on the organizations.

Each of his many accomplishments would be legendary on its own; when combined, they are beyond our comprehension. The Chofetz Chaim was niftar 83 years ago today, the 24th of Elul. The first known dedication to his memory in America took place just a few weeks later. In a small room in Baltimore, Rabbi J. Heffland, the chairman of the Board of Directors of Talmudical Academy, which was founded in 1917, organized a meeting to discuss what could be done to preserve the legacy of the Chofetz Chaim. More than 80 million people tuned in on Monday night to see the first presidential debatebetween Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, making it the most-watched debate in American history.
While the final numbers are still being tallied by Nielsen, the debate averaged a total of 80.9 million viewers across 12 of the channels that carried it live, according to CNN.

A driver who was pulled over for speeding after finding out his sister was killed, said he is grateful for the police officer who stopped him, after the officer drove him 100 miles to be with his family.
Mark E Ross posted to Facebook that his sister was killed in a car accident, and he instantly got in the car to be with his family.
“Of course we were speeding, trying to get back to Detroit,” he wrote. “And we got pulled over in Ohio.”

An explosion at a home in the New York City borough of the Bronx on Tuesday killed a battalion chief, the city's highest ranking fire official to die in the line of duty since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, officials said.
Michael Fahy, a 17-year veteran of the fire department, died after he was struck in the head by building debris sent flying to the street, Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro told reporters at New York-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital.
"We lost a hero today and our members are all saddened," said Nigro, who was visibly emotional. "He was a star, a brave man."

New York - You never know who you are going to meet walking down the streets of New York City and yesterday, a lesson that Jonathan Pollard learned on Monday as he bumped into Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.
Arutz Sheva reported that the two men happened upon each other as Pollard and his wife Ester were enjoying the fall weather at an outdoor coffee ship in Manhattan located near a charitable event that Barkat was to be attending. It was the first time that Pollard, who was released from prison 322 days ago, has met with any Israeli officials, and the two man chatted briefly.
The Jerusalem municipality released a statement saying that Barkat was “excited” to meet with Pollard, noting that he had awarded Pollard an “Honorary Citizen of Jerusalem” medal....

Police and security forces deployed along main Jerusalem roads and checkpoints are being set.
Police forces were deploying in the Jerusalem district due to an intelligence alert. Security forces took stations throughout the main roads and thoroughfares and checkpoints were set.
After several hours of heightened alert, police released a statement saying the alert had been lifted and the checkpoints removed.

A delegation of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) led by its president, Ronald S. Lauder, was received by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday evening.
In his address, the pope spoke about the challenge to promote peace in the world and about the refugee crisis.
