“She was Baltimore Royalty.” Those words were repeated over and over again when news of the passing of Mrs. Elinor Cohn, Elka bat Binyamin Tzvi, a'h, was shared.
How true those words are. Always full of poise, dignity and grace- Elinor Cohn was Baltimore Royalty. No matter where you would see her she was always put together, nails done, lipstick set and a radiant smile as she would greet you. There was an inner beauty that emanated from her as well. A pure heart, always there to help, be involved, and give advice and never asking for anything in return.
She was part of the America’s Greatest Generation as well as Baltimore’s greatest generation; without whom Baltimore would not be the thriving Jewish Utopia it is today. That generation brought to ...

Washington, D.C. - Oct. 1, 2024 - Iran is planning to attack Israel “imminently” with ballistic missiles, an anonymous senior White House official tells Israeli and US media.
The official says that “we are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran.”
It was cleared for publication Tuesday afternoon that since the beginning of the war, the IDF has conducted dozens of targeted operations in areas near the border in southern Lebanon in order to dismantle Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure that pose a threat to Israeli civilian communities in northern Israel.
IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated, ”Tonight, we are de-classifying a series of IDF operations conducted since the beginning of the war aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure and capabilities in the area of the Israel Lebanon border as part of our efforts to make sure that the residents of northern Israel can return to their homes in safety and security without the threat of Hezbollah on their doorstep."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, September 13, ordered that the safe return of northern Israel's residents to their homes be added to the war's objectives. In the week that followed, dozens of Hezbollah terrorists were killed and thousands were maimed when their communication devices exploded. Israel did not claim responsibility for the explosions, but foreign media reported that the Mossad was behind them.
The following weekend, Hezbollah responded to the elimination of Radwan Force commander Ibrahim Aqil by expanding the range of fire and increasing rocket and UAV launches, targeting the lower Galilee, Haifa Bay, and Jezreel Valley areas. At the same time, the IDF increased its strikes on Hezbollah targets, striking buildings used to store long-range missiles. On M...
Jerusalem, Israel - Oct. 1, 2024 - As the Israel Defense Forces officially launched ground operations in southern Lebanon early this morning, the military is now disclosing that it has already carried out more than 70 small raids with special forces since the beginning of the war, destroying numerous Hezbollah positions, tunnels, and thousands of weapons that would have potentially been used by the terror group to invade Israel.
According to the IDF, troops in the raids over past months silently reached around 1,000 Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, some of them several kilometers from the border fence, including tunnels and bunkers where the terror group stored weapons. The IDF said the sites were located both inside Lebanese villages and in forested areas.
The raids have been carrie...
Every year I struggle to find just the right words to introduce the initiation of Selichos on Motzei Shabbos prior to Rosh Hashana, which hopefully will set the tone for the elevated days ahead through Yom Kippur.
Especially intriguing to me is the opening of the main Selicha we recite responsively, במוצאי מנוחה קדמנוך תחילה — As [the day of] rest departs we precede before you first.
Why the emphasis on it being after the day of rest, and not simply post-Shabbos?
The next phrase seems redundant. קדם — to precede, is synonymous with תחילה — first.
Wouldn't simply stating that on Motzei Shabbos קדמנוך — we have preceded before you, been sufficient?
We mention our coming before G-d, תחילה — 'first'.
